Best CD for teeny newborn- only want to buy a few more

Hi ladies,

I just found out I'm expecting my second baby this May/June. Of course my thoughts turned immediately to diapers .

With my DD, I use gDiapers stuffed with a gerbers organic prefolds (and some g cloth inserts). I know a lot of you use way more sophisticated (better!) CD systems for your babes, but the gs were free to me, have fit my baby really well, have held up well and I love that I can stuff them with the biodegradable insert when I'm traveling and at bedtime.

Anyhoo, only problem for me with the gs was that they didn't fit my daughter AT ALL for the first two-three months. My baby was 6 pounds, 2 oz at birth and didn't have much chunk to her thighs even when she was at the 8 pound mark the gmakers recommend. So this time around, I need to have some CDs on hand that will actually fit the teeny little babies I make (my daughter wore the preemie size for the first three weeks and newborn until she was two months, if that helps you picture it). Any suggestions?

I don't want to invest in a ton of diapers, so I don't want to have to wash them after every wear (so probably not pocket diapers), and it would be great if new babe could continue to wear them even after he/she is fitting in to the small gs. I have six small gs so not a huge stash and I could stand to have a few more dipes.

Thanks so much!!

I'd get 2doz orange edge GMD and 6 imse vimse preemie sz covers for a tiny baby as a minimal stash. In fact you could just get the covers and fold down the pfs you have.

But. My DD1 was 6lb 2oz. She was just teeny! Nothing fit her at all. So in preparation for DD2 I got newborn size diaps and covers and some really tiny clothes. She weighed 8lbs. The newborn stuff fit for about 3 days then she started out-peeing them so I had to move up to the yellow edges.

DD was about that size. We liked Kissaluv fitteds in size 0. We also had the smallest size of Motherease fitteds. We used Thirsties covers in the smallest size. They worked fine for us.

My cloth diapered babies WERE preemies coming home at 5lbs even and 4lbs 8oz respectively. They both used preemie prefolds and preemie proraps. The proraps were massive but to my knowledge there's not a cover out there that is much smaller. We had much better luck using homemade recycled wool longies and soakers for them. Google Katrina's soaker pattern for a great pattern for making your own.

Any suggestions for a very skinny newborn who is leaking in kissaluv 0's with thirstys duo covers??? We also have a few lil joeys that don't work AT ALL. My LO's legs are sooo skinny that everything leaks out his legs. The best combo so far is prefolds with covers, but if we don't catch him immediately after peeing even those leak. Over night is really rough right now, we change his diaper and clothes 3-4 times a night becuase he is so wet and leaking everywhere.

DD was 6 lbs 11 oz when she was born, and she dropped a lb the first two days. She wore Thirsties one size covers with gerber organic 3 ply prefolds for the first two months. I had two covers and a pack of prefolds, so I diapered her for the first 8 weeks on $40. I highly suggest it, it made for a super slim fit.
