When is "energy efficient" not worth it? - Page 2

So ladies, I would just like to say thanks for the suggestion of miele washing machines.. Ours was dead as of two or 3 days ago (leaked, shook horribly and sounded like it was about to blow up... I did a bit of research and talked to my dad and we ended up w/ a miele w4840 (was a 'floor model' - deliverd yesterday!!). So far, I LOVE it!! I adore the 'sanitize' wash - I am so using that on diapers from now on (I think it may have even finally stripped them to the point that they no longer repel!!!!) And, did I mention its freaking *HUGE*?!?!?!?! Like, seriously?!?!? And so far all our clothes have come out wonderfully clean I am *SO* happy!!!

Yay! I'm happy you're happy! And, as I sit here folding together gray socks and other items our crappy apartment washers don't get clean, I'm also really, really jealous. Out of curiosity, how much did it cost you?

When we were getting estimates to replace our roof, the energy efficient kind was a much higher price than the govt rebates we'd get back. The energy savings weren't significant either, though it might be a better option outside of CA (where people have real cold winters).

TOILETS! in our previous home, we went with low water whatever toilets and HATED them very much! it is next to impossible to rinse a diaper in them, my 4 year old was constantly leaving skid marks in it, and the toilet virtually always looked dirty after use since there wasn't enough power or water to flush away the job. it was gross ... and honestly, as a family with young kids, do you really have time to break out the scrub brush a few times a day to keep the toilet looking tidy???

that mistake won't be repeated again!

however, we are looking into geothermal heating for this home ... it is currently heated on an old, oil furnace.
