My almost 4 year old won't use the potty.

Ds1 will be 4 in early November. We've been working on potty training for awhile. He took a gym class last year and didn't wet himself once the whole year. He was going to the bathroom very consistently all spring at home and when we were out. But since then, he's had more and more accidents and at this point, he doesn't even try to get to the bathroom, he just wets himself.

At this point, I often just put him in diapers. Everything is a fight right now and I just don't have the energy to fight him to try to go to the bathroom and end up changing his wet pants 5-6 times a day and then keep up with the dirty laundry. The biggest problem right now is that he has started preschool three afternoons a week - and obviously, the fact that he is wetting himself there is not going to go over well. He's been there 2 weeks and he's had an accident once a week (the first week, he went three times in the three hour period he was there). They've been fine so far but they're attributing it to the fact that it's the beginning of the school year - I don't think that's the problem, it's been going on all summer.

I don't know what to do. I hate the way I feel - I just want to scream at him sometimes that I'm sick of cleaning up pee all day long! I keep thinking that if I make it into a battle, he'll just push back harder and I should back off. But that's not working. Neither is talking about it. (Neither is getting upset with him about it ) He tells me the pee pee just came rushing out and he didn't have time to get to the potty. He's in the middle of 'working' (with his trains) so he didn't have time to go. The preschool teacher thinks he's afraid another child will take his toy while he's gone and has offered to hold it for him. But I've tried dealing with all of these thing and nothings seems to be working. I'm beginning to wonder if it's a medical problem. But sometimes he goes just fine so I don't know. I'm considering trying a rewards program just to see if it works.

Anybody have any fresh ideas? I feel like I've been doing the same thing for too long with the same results but don't know what else to do.

What about the water proof training pants? It's getting cooler in some places now. (not here) Maybe some waterproof undies and thick sweat pants, and HE can clean it up.

I send my daycare kids into the bathroom with an empty bag, and they put the wet clothes in there, redress themselves in the new outfit, and they just go play.

I clean up the floor though. Even though they are old enough, I figure that cleaning themselves up is enough. (plus, it's still hot here, so, they are wearing just shorts or sun dresses, and it goes all over the floor)

http://www.amazon.com/Gerber-All-Wat...ef=pd_sbs_a_22 I know they make them bigger than this too.

http://www.babybestbuy.com/dappi-ear...ining-384.html <--this is where I buy all my stuff. They are a really good company, with good prices.
