Not sure where to post this, but I have a question about immunity. I know breastfeeding helps to support and build the immune system of the baby, but my question is, is it only temporary? I'm not talking about passive immunity to specific diseases, but the immune system overall. Is the immune support only while you are still nursing, or does nursing give the child a better lifelong immune system compared to those who are formula fed?
Also, does it matter how much breastmilk a child gets per day? For instance, I would like to breastfeed until my son is a year old for his primary source of nutrition, but once he is having real meals, after he is a year old, what is the benefit to nursing a few times a day or even once a day (say, before going to sleep)?
