Does alpaca fibre work as a soaker?

We visited an alpaca farm on the weekend and I loved the fibre! I'm wondering if it works as a soaker - anyone know? Alpaca fibre doesn't have lanolin - so I'm wondering how it stands up after a couple of washes...

Alpaca is strong, warm and water resistant so it should work fine... maybe too warm for summer use. The biggest problem is the cost. It costs about twice as much as a good wool yarn.

Also, there are sellers on etsy and an online shop called llamajamas that sell alpaca blend (usually blended with merino) soakers and longies.

Should be fine... just keep in mind how much warmer alpaca is...

Awesome - so you figure I just wash it in wool wash and be done with it? I'll check out Llamajamas and see what they say about washing too.

We're near Ottawa and heading into winter... warm is good! A good thing to keep in mind though. Even with the expense, I think I'll try it.
