What do you put on your cat for tick prevention

I have an indoor/outdoor cat and a lot of ticks in this area.
Im a bit nervous about using frontline, but hear it works.
I was using a flea and tick collar, but they never stay on and make me not want to let the kids touch the cat.
I also have a 5 month old baby and I really have to do something to keep the ticks off this cat.
Any one use front line or know what else to do?

I have used Frontline on my cats and dogs. Some people may object but I had a MAJOR HORRIBLE flea infestation once and was so traumatized that I got over any objection I ever heard. I will say that the Frontline seemed to help more with the fleas than the ticks.

However, I now have chickens and they pretty much take care of ticks. We have had no ticks or fleas since we got the chickens. But if I saw any fleas I'd go back without hesitation.

My vet who is wholistic has no problem with Frontline. She said that it only affects creatures in their larval stage. If you don't have a larval stage, you don't have to worry. Hope that helps.

This would be a great question for the pet section, you'd probably get more answers. I don't have cats but use Frontline for my dog. It works well on both fleas and ticks in most areas. You might want to ask your vet what they recommend, in certain areas fleas and ticks seem to be developing immunity to certain brands. The one thing about Frontline is that it kills ticks, but it takes awhile to do it. I believe it says it kills them in 24-48 hours. This means if you have a heavy tick infestation, you may still find live ticks on your cat because the medication hasn't yet had time to kill them. It is rare for them to attach and engorge though. With my dog I use a tick collar as backup when we go into tick infested areas. However, MANY tick collars are not safe for cats, so you'll want to consult your vet.
