I have the utmost respect for your position as a nurse and those who you work with. I am sure you have collectively seen more horrific things than I can imagine. I know you have seen people seriously injured in car accidents and children with head injuries and broken bones from bike riding accidents. But does that mean you never take your children in a car or let them ride a bike? Of course not! You teach your children to wear seatbelts and bike helmets.
The same thing is true for penises. If your child does get an UTI or other infection you give them antibiotics. To prevent STDs you teach him to abstain until marriage or use a condom.
