New problem - dog won't pee outside because it's raining! - Page 3

When the dog is out of the crate, keep him leashed to you (umbilical cord method - tie the end of the leash to a belt loop). That way he can't wander off and pee without you noticing. When you see him start to pee inside, scoop him up and carry him outside quickly. Most dogs will stop peeing when you pick them up. Make sure you clean up the messes well with enzymatic cleaner or vinegar.

When he pees outside, say his cue word (I use "potty") and praise him. I recommend using a consistent location outside and pottying them on leash. If you have a fenced yard and want to give him playtime, only let him off leash after they potty. Or take him for a walk after they potty in the yard.

And yes, feeding the dog in the crate will help them like it better.

Hang in there, it is rough at first but they learn quickly. Just remember they have small bladders when they are little.

My dogs would do this.Try to run in or refuse to go on the wet grass. I dragged them into the grass and waited. They soon learned it was far better to quickly pee and poo so they could get back in the warm, dry house.

If you must-get wet-until puppy learns he must go before being let back inside.Just keep encouraging the pup since he is scared. He will learn to go super fast in the rain and snow!
