non-dairy milk question

Thread Starter
hoping someone can offer some insight to this:

in a lot of macrobiotic literature they say to use rice milk instead of soy milk because soy milk is "highly processed" among other things. but when i look at the ingredient list on the side of my west soy organic unsweetened soy milk carton it says "filtered water, soybeans." there are at least 5 different ingredients in rice milk (coconut, almond, and hemp milk, too). so i don't understand how soy milk is so processed, but those others aren't.

in general i try to limit my soy consumption, and would like to cut back even more, but i'm stuck on the soy milk b/c of this.

Making soymilk involves boiling soybeans in water, mashing them, and filtering. You can make it yourself at home if you are so inclined. I don't consider it highly processed.

I try and limit my intake of soy as well and I drink almond milk. I don't know that any of the plant milks are "highly processed" (some of the added ingredients are just to boost the calcium and stuff not preservatives) but I do think some taste better than others and some are more nutritious than others. Rice milk is at the bottom of my list for both of those reasons.
