My daughter was treated with flagyl twice for diarrhea from endolimax nana. Each time it came back. The third time my doctor called a GI specialist for advice. Turns out she should have also gotten iodoquinol after the flagyl to kill off the spores. So she did that. The entire 5 weeks of treatment the diarrhea was resolved and she had solid stools.

To be thorough we tested our dogs' stools and all came back negative. My husband and I were tested as was our daughter (our son refused to be tested.) Only my husband came back positive. Since our daughter was symptomatic and had been positive twice before, the doctor said that sometimes you can have it and not shed it. We decided to treat the entire family. (At the cost of about $70 per person taking medication 3 times a day for 5 weeks.) We started our daughter on the flagyl as soon as we got all her stool samples. The rest of us started almost 2 weeks later when we got the results back.

My daughter has been off the iodoquinol for about a week. The rest of us are still taking it. Tonight she had a nasty diarrhea again. I am afraid she still has the amoeba. Does anyone have any insights?

We have chickens and cats who pee and poop outside. Our daughter puts everything in her mouth and drinks from the dogs' water dish.

BTW, giving a squirt of whipped cream out of a can directly into his mouth has been the best way to get our son to take his medication. It was huge battles (even using chocolate syrup.) With the whipped cream suggestion we have had success.
