8 year old birthday present ideas???

My cousin is turning 8 years old and DD and I will be in town for her birthday party (which gratefully consists of a dinner out at Benihana).

So I am wondering what to get her for her birthday. I am a little out of touch at what a mainstream 8 year old might want that I would be willing to buy.

I was thinking of a knitting tower (since every time I am there we work on finger knitting).

Any other ideas? Maybe a book? I was thinking Pelle's New Suit would be a good book about wool and fibers, but it might be a bit immature for her.

Art supplies are always a big hit - some colored pencils and a sketch book ( the kind with good paper) make a nice gift.
