Wet cough for about 2 weeks? Maybe longer

My DS is almost 2. Hes had a little bit of a wet cough for a few weeks now. Its not constant. He doesnt have "fits" but maybe one or two times a night (or none like last night) he will cough for about 15-30 seconds, and go back to sleep. He will cough for the same amount of time here and there throughout the day. He had a little bit of a runny nose on and off. No fevers. No real irratability, other then what comes with being almost 2.

About 2 weeks ago, my husband came home from NC with a nasty cold of some sort, and hes still fighting the cough off as well. The only problem with HIM is that he doesnt get nearly the same amount of nutrients my kids do and he smokes. So thats not helping his cause. Because of the smoking he always has a cough, but this cough is worse then usual.

So I am assuming they have the same thing. DS2s cough is wet when he does cough. He is not having a hard time breathing at all. Sometimes I can hear that he may need to cough to break something up, you know that sound someones chest makes when they have crud in there. I immiatate coughing for him, he does it, and it does the trick.

So is this just a cold? My DS1 has a WBV thursday, so I will have DS2 with me. I will ask their ped, but what do you ladies think?

bSome good herbs for breaking up a cough include Hyssop, mullein, lungwort, and lobelia. Warm/hot baths and steam help, if you can get some herbs in the water when he breathes it in, even better. Four Thieves oil or a cayenne rub rubbed on the chest will increase circulation to the area. Deep breathing might help. And some immune boosters like vitamin c and zinc could give him a boost.

In peace & health

Vit C is not a problem. hes been getting healthy doses of that for quite a while.

Thank you for the rest of the tips.
