Extreme Breast Pain

Thread Starter
In the last few years, whenever I am even remotely cold, my breasts hurt so bad that it could bring me to tears. It only has to be about 55 degrees for my nipples to feel like they are clamped in a vice and having pins lodged in them. My bra hurts against them and taking it off hurts even more. Even once I warm up, it takes about half an hour for the pain to stop.

It happens regardless of where I am in my cycle. The weather is just starting to grow cool and they hurt already. I'm dreading winter.

Is this normal? Maybe indicative of some deficiency? And more importantly, how can I make it stop?

This sounds like raynaud's syndrome. Sometimes medications can help.

I get the same thing! My doctor suggested Raynauds, but from my reading, wouldn't you also get that in other extremities?

Anyway, something that I found helps is holding a warm cloth to them. If it happens at work, I'd take a quick break and run to the restroom and hold a paper towel wet with warm water to them and it makes it more bearable. If I have a choice, I wear warm, soft, loose fitting clothing and no bra, that seems to help.

I know one mama who has Raynauds of the breasts only, nipples specifically and no where else so I am going to say Raynauds as well.

I was going to say Reynauds as well.

Raynaud's was my first thought as well.

I'd concur. There are many ways to help and nutrition/supplements is one. Many women have success with B vitamins, vitamin D and magnesium. Good luck.

I have been diagnosed with Raynaud's of the nipples by my doc. I do have general cold intolerance and trouble in the cold with my fingers and toes, but not to anywhere NEAR the same extent. Not even in the same ballpark.

Mine started when I started nursing my dd, who was born in February in a blizzard. I had NO IDEA what it was. The pain was and is indescribable, like being stung by bees under my clothes.

It lessened after I weaned dd (which was not, to my credit, within an hour of this starting, but it has never gone away.

Extra clothing never helped if I tried to, say, put extra nursing pads in my bra. What I DID learn is that with Raynaud's, you have to warm your whole body and keep it warm. This is frustrating for me, since I like to keep the heat down in the winter. But not letting my body temperature go down, ever, has helped. I also drink tons of tea. And I have adopted a nearly dairy-free, meat-free diet in an effort to decrease overall cyclic breast pain. I get lots of exercise to keep blood flow at its peak. I haven't taken supplements in a few years; except for vitamin D, which we take anyway.
