my inital thought was yes!
but, and here's the but -
we were over a friend's house last friday and their 3 year old granddaughter had some interactions with my son. by interactions, i mean she leaned over to give him some kisses and gave him two brief hugs. keep in mind, she's 3, so all of the contact was only 30 seconds or less b/c she can't stay still for longer than that. she never touched heads with him, he didn't wear any of her clothes, etc.
they just called me about an hour ago to say that granddaughter had lice.
so, he's been at daycare for almost two full days before i found any of this out.
i called his pediatrician and asked what they would recommend, and they said that i would be able to notice nits in his hair within a week and aksed if i had seen any. i haven't but i also haven't been looking closely, even though i washed his hair last night. they also said they usually feed for 24-48 hours before dropping off or trying to find a new host - which causes red spots / bites on his head. i'd also be able to see the louse if i moved his hair around.
there is no over the counter shampoo available for children as young as he is and you have to get rid of them the old fashioned way with a comb and picking the nits out. i intend to check him throughly when i get home.
but, now i'm struggling with what/if to say to daycare. i don't want to withhold information from the other parents and from daycare, but i also don't want to create a panic if it's not necessary. as i said, he's already been there a full day and the better part of today before i knew.
do i tell them to tell the other parents to watch for signs? do i wait and see if he develops any nits (which should be either a yes or no within the next day or so)?
WWYD?

This one actually kills the nits and the lice, you still should pick out all the nits but it isn't as critical as the other brands where you have to get every single one. And I wouldn't be able to count on being able to see the lice, my oldest had a severe infestation, it was bad, and I could only find 1 louse. The adults are quick and avoid light so they can be hard to find. Now in my family, my DD1 was the only one that we could find lice on but we all used Nix as a preventive on the other 4 members because it does kill the lice and eggs, we wanted to stop it from spreading.
