Relatively healthy, but delicious cookie recipe

I'm starting to realize that our family just likes sweets, and there is really nothing I can do about it.

I limit junky stuff, HFCS, loaded with sugar, store-bought stuff, but we do have real dark chocolate sometimes and we go to our local gelateria after dinner some nights.

Buuuuut I wouldn't mind having some cookies around if they could deliver some nutrients and weren't too sugary. I am good at cakes and pies, but I have never really made anything other than white flour chocolate chip cookies.

Good recipe, anyone? We like all kinds of cookies.

I'll have to go dig up the recipe, but the one that comes to mind is a thumbprint cookie w jam filling. The cookie is almond flour, egg white and sugar, and w a fruit only jam would be pretty good.

I've made these juice sweetened oatmeal cookies that are pretty good.

I recently made the plum oatmeal w/ walnut cookies from THE KIND DIET cookbook and they were healthy and yummy!

I make oatmeal raisin cookies and found that I can completely cut out the sugar and my dd will still eat them. I have to dig up the recipe, but if you still want it, PM me a reminder and I'll post it.

These are our go to, and I figure, given that I'm looking for a cookie, the almond butter and eggs offset the brown sugar enough. You can fiddle with how much sugar they contain.

I really like these kitchen sink cookies. The have a small amount of sugar and oil and are made with dark chocolate, dried apricots and cherries along with walnuts and whole wheat flour.

I make these (good for lactation too) and use some WW and some white flour and a little less salt. Then I put them in a buttered 13x9x2 glass pan and bake for quite awhile. I think it takes about 45 minutes for the cookies to be set in the center. Then cool and cut into bars. The bars freeze really well too and are SO good right from the freezer.

I look for recipes for oatmeal and bran cookies. This is one we like. Still a lot of sugar, but they are more filling than typical choc chip cookies, and have more nutritional value (and fiber!).

Also, I typically use banana in place of the eggs (1/2 banana plus 1/4tsp baking powder per egg), and use either applesauce or ground flax in place of part of the butter, and decrease the sugar to about 3/4 of the original amount.

eta- these are healthy with no added sugar: Banana-Oatmeal Cookies
We like them, but I usually add a couple tbsp of sugar, and chocolate chips. They work for when you are ok with a healthy cookie. Sometimes, though, we're just really in the mood for a more "junky" cookie, and that's when I make the oat-bran-chip type cookies that I posted above.

Oh, and it's probably obvious that we're not a no-sugar household. I do try to make sure we get plenty of good foods, but I'm not hardcore about junk.

We make raw date cookies & the kids love them! The foundation of the recipe is just dates & nuts ground up in a food processor. From there, you can add lots of other fun ingredients like cocoa powder, vanilla, honey, chia seeds, tahini, spirulina, whatever! You then roll them into balls & refrigerate. Yum!

These are the best cookies ever, just a take on chocolate chip cookies but we are all nuts about them. Not uber healthy but not too bad either!

8 Tbls Butter, softened
1/2 c white sugar
1/2 c brown sugar
2 eggs
3/4 c all purpose flour
3/4 c whole wheat flour
2 c rolled oats (not instant)
1/3 to 1/2 c wheat germ, sesame/flax seeds, bran, whatever extra health boost you are in for
1/2 tsp cinnamon
pinch salt
2 tsps baking powder
1/2 c milk
1/2 vanilla
1 1/2 to 2 cups semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips, nuts, ground coconut, etc

cream butter and sugars; add eggs and mix well. Combine flour, oats, cinnamon, salt and baking powder in a bowl. Add the ingredient to butter mixture, alternating with milk. Stir in vanilla extract and chocolate. Bake in 375 degree over for 12 to 15 minutes, let a cool a few minutes before removing and voila.

Does anyone have any nut-free recipes?

I've made these a few times, they're healthy enough that I don't feel like I need to restrict my DS's consumption:

http://allrecipes.com//Recipe/health...es/Detail.aspx

Ingredients

* 3 ripe bananas
* 2 cups rolled oats
* 1 cup dates, pitted and chopped
* 1/3 cup vegetable oil
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2. In a large bowl, mash the bananas. Stir in oats, dates, oil, and vanilla. Mix well, and allow to sit for 15 minutes. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
3. Bake for 20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until lightly brown.

You could sub coconut oil or applesauce for the vegetable oil to make them healthier.

Wow, lots of good ideas! Thanks, everyone!

The day I posted this I made these:

1/2 c butter
1/3 c oil (I used walnut oil)
1 1/2 c sugar
2/3 c milk
2 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 c WW pastry flour
1 1/4 c rolled oats
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 c walnuts
1/2 c chocolate chips

Blend butter, oil, and sugar. Add milk and vanilla and blend. Mix dry and add to wet. Refrigerate for 20 min. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls on greased cookie sheet. Bake 10 min at 350. Makes 2 dozen.

ETA: That's the cookie recipe on my bag of Bob's Redmill Whole Wheat pastry flour. They were very fluffy.
