Changing DS is becoming a real chore these days!

Last night, after bath time, he was all over the place! Mainly wanting to roll over on to his tummy and crawl and this was on the changing table! Made me nervous!! I tried singing to him to distract him. Working as hard as I could to keep him on his back so that I could put his dipe on and jammies. I broke a sweat!

Cecilia, who is almost 6 months, is also suddenly not easy to diaper. She is all over the place on her changing table! And she gets really annoyed with me when I try to straighten out her legs when she doesn't want them straight. Times like these I wish I had Aplix diapers instead of snaps!

Yup. I change DS on the floor so no worries about falling, but the process of getting the diaper on is a pain. I dug out an old thing from with DD -- basically a mirror and dangling toys that hang off the wall and he can lay under. That will (usually) give me 20-30 seconds....

Yes, I feel you! Sounds like all of our 5-6 month olds are trying to drive us crazy. S doesn't roll over much but she LOVES rolling from back to side, side to back, back to other side, and thrusting her hips up in the air, especially on her changing table thing. So far we're okay, but just a bit ago, trying to nurse her down for a nap was hilarious. For probably a half hour she was just rolling back and forth on the bed, so I could barely get her on, much less still. She's so wiggly in her sleep I have to keep going in there and holding her still so she doesn't wake up!
Crazy babies.

I posted awhile back that I count to 3 to DD, with building excitement in my voice, while changing her diaper or getting her dressed. For example, I'll say "one... two... THREE!" when I take off her diaper, or put her arm through a sleeve, with the "THREE!" being the big finale. She's come to expect something exciting and watches my face instead of trying to eat the diaper cream or do summersaults on the changing table. It doesn't always work, but often enough!

I guess my baby is not challenging me much because he just needs to have busy hands. He's a pretty mobile 7mo. It's like a light switch: body trying to roll, little grunts and ams flailing then I pop something in his hands and that's it. His body is all relaxed. That reminds me of Maria Montessori explaining that little babies cannot be still unless their hands are busy.

Because DS is so mobile and willful DH is been dreading diaper change. He was franc today: We are having such a good time, he's gonna hate me , can you change him? I said I already do a lot. If I become the only one who can change him...take your time, play, sing, kiss. "Don't be so goal oriented!". It worked! They continued their good times through changing.

We change on our bed that is a mattress on the floor or on a flat cushion on the living room floor. We got rid of the changing table when he started rolling. We have a lil "changing cart" for supplies now.

I have tried keeping Cecilia's hands busy, and she does like to play with something on the changing table, but it's not enough to keep her lower body from getting into the action as well.

It gets even more challenging! DD is almost 9 months old and it's like we're torturing her during diaper changes lol She can stand holding on the furniture now so I actually just started changing her while standing up at home. Otherwise we change on the floor.

Yep. That's when I bust out the UBER toy that only comes out in desperate cases such as a giant crappy diaper vs. the squirmy reachy-for-the-poopy baby from wiggle land:

Paper.

(Sometimes cell phone works too, though it's more useful for distraction in other scenarios, such as trying on clothes at the consignment store)

Anyway. Child Development blah blah blah. Try some paper!

That's exactly how I changed DD1 when she was standing! I could even do a full crapper. Oh the skills we build as mothers!

Very cool, mama. I'll have to give that a try. More often than not, W is watching my face when I talk. It's the sweetest thing ever... so hopefully he'll do the same thing when I'm change his diaper!

I have songs I only sing during diaper changes and special toys she only gets at these times. It helps a little. Sometimes.

We used to refer to diapering ds2 as "wrestling a greased seal". It gets worse before it gets better, but then they're potty trained . Good luck!

oh, my yes, this all sounds *very* familiar

i'll be taking him out of his bathtub and placing him on the floor and i take the 1/2 second to sit down rather than kneel and he's already flipped on his belly (giving me a lovely little moon) and trying to crawl to get to the magazine holder.

one thing i've noticed the last few days and i'm happy about is he seems to have figured out the pattern and will lift his butt slightly when i'm pulling off the soiled diaper. makes it much easier vs when he'd tuck his legs up and the little tape tabs would get stuck in his fat thigh folds.
