Desperate!!!

I'm hoping somebody here has some information that will help.

Baby "I" is my 3rd baby....she's 2 weeks old (today as a matter of fact). I had an I&D done on a boil/abcess/bite (nobody really knows what it was) on my leg, there is some cellulitis. Bad cellulitis. I have 2 types of abx now-- both deemed safe by AAP. Doc said that if it doesn't look better within 36 hours, I will have to go in for IV Vancomycin. (He's assuming this infection is caused by MRSA, but NO proof yet.) He is saying that while recieving IV vanc I'll have to stop breastfeeding....but I'm just not so sure. I've read conflicting info on the net. I'm a nurse but really HATE hospitals and am dreading even the thought of this. What to do???? HELP! Is there any alternatives?? Does anybody know?? I've taken Vanc before for Pyleonephritis (sp) during pregnancy, but unfortunately with nursing, there is no placenta
I really need some prayers, or ideas, or something...

Dr. Hale sats it is fine as vanco is not absorbed when taken PO - so even though it will be in your milk, baby won't absorb it. http://neonatal.ttuhsc.edu/discus/me...tml?1220891835

hopefully someone can post the info from his book too.

Personally, I would give my baby probiotics in this case.

Good luck!

She and I both have been taking probiotics; it wouldn't be PO vanc but IV, hence the need for inpatient care. I know they treat suspected MRSA mastitis with Vanc but can find no info anywhere

Sure, you would be getting the antibiotics through an IV, but any antibiotics in your breastmilk would be entering your baby PO, so wouldn't be absorbed by the baby (at least, that's how I understood it, but I need to go to bed, so I could be wrong)
