Nervous

Hi everyone,

So yesterday the integrated risk assessment results came back saying my baby has a 1 in 18 chance of having Down's...so long story short I am having an amnio tomorrow. I have had an amnio before and it wasn't a great experience, I didn't have complications, but...the reason I am doing it is that I am basically on my own in this and if my baby does have Down's I'd like to know before they are born...results will be in Friday. I am nervous....any words of wisdom?

Thank you,
Stella

StellaNuova- I'm sorry you're going through so much stress right now, I'm sure this is really difficult. I opted not to do any prenatal screenings so I can't really offer much in the way of personal experience... that being said, I will say that I've heard of a lot of people (including my best friend) that received less than great news from the screenings and went on to have healthy babies.

Hang in there and try to stay positive. Whatever happens, it's not the end of the world and you will find the strength to deal with whatever comes your way.

Keep us posted!

I've heard it's important to rest after the amnio. The waiting is hard. Maybe get yourself a TV show season or two of something you've wanted to watch to help you pass the time while waiting instead of thinking about the results? I know that's kind of lame advice. But while I had to keep my feet up for 2 weeks with a bad SCH with this pregnancy, a Veronica Mars marathon kept my mind off of what I thought for sure was an impending miscarriage.

Good book? Game? Something to do in your off time. It's hard to keep your mind from wandering.

No words of wisdom, just loads of . My friend had the CVS (I think) performed and took it easy and watched movies for a few days after it was done. The wait for the results was tough but in the end everything was fine. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow and in the coming days and wishing you well.

Thanks Mamas! You are helping me feel better already...the procedure is over and now I am resting...one fun piece of news...I found out the baby's gender, and it's a girl! Now I will distract myself until Friday....

Congrats on the girl! The chances are still greatest that everything is fine!

If you do get results of Down Syndrome although I know it will not be easy you have at least would have time to prepare and rethink your expectations and plans etc... and get support from others! You would still have a wonderful child who can make wonderful contributions to the world.

I had spent time on DS boards and looking at pictures, reading etc., so I would be ok if I got that news. I allowed myself to shop for a few baby clothes last night, committing to love my baby either way. But I have to admit this is a relief. There are a lot of challenges right now already without adding this one.
