first day of public school today for my son

We've been homeschoolers since kindergarten. My son and I were butting heads a lot and our relationship was suffering this school year....so I enrolled him in PS. He had to go down a grade and be placed according to age. Today is his first day in 5th grade at public school. I'm so nervous for him.

DD1 started highschool this year because she wanted to do highschool sports. I'm so proud of her....she went from homeschooler to straight A highschool student and super soccer player. I hope things go as well for DS

I'm nervous, alone with the baby, drinking my coffee and missing my big kids.

I hope it goes well!

There are several of us former homeschoolers here, and I think 5th grade is a really super grade to start with in school. A lot of the work is content based, rather than skill based, so in many subjects he'll most likely be exposed to new things. My DD really enjoyed her science and history classes. Some subjects he may be learning how to do them in school. My DD had never had to copy math problems out of a book on to paper, and it took her a while to catch on to how the math was done, even through the math itself was pretty easy for her. Hopefully, he make some nice new friends and you guys can enjoy each other more.

GOOD LUCK

Best of luck Moon. My dd went back in 7th and loved it...did well and ran track in the spring. This year I encouraged her to be on student council and she joined and is excited about it. She is very social and has a group of really good, sweet kids that she pals with. Keep us posted on your son!
