How concerned are you about eating tuna? I'm pregnant and I'm craving tuna like crazy!!!! I'm 17 weeks and have only eaten twice thus far because I'm worried about the mercury. I had it on sat and want it so badly again today. I'll be receiving wild alaskan salmon soon so hopefully that will help with my tuna cravings What do you TF mamas do for seafood while pregnant?

I did a ton of salmon and also took purified fish oil tablets and ate a lot of halibut.

I eat tuna once a week, usually. I try to eat more canned mackerel and sardines (like 3-4 times per week), which can be substituted in many tuna recipes and have less risk of mercury.

I had a mercury test (when they wave a wand around in your mouth) at the dentist once the day after eating tuna--my result was really really high--I only had one teensy amalgam at the time (its out now). It was my only test, so I don't know for sure it was the tuna, but I decided not to take any chances. I've had tuna twice in the last 2 years.

Read Nina Planks Real Food For Mother and Baby. She has great information about fish and mercury. We buy wild caught tuna which is less in mercury than the chicken of the sea variety at the grocery store. She even has suggestions for companies you can order from online. It is more exspensive than the usual canned tuna but cheaper than what I've found at our Food Co-op. It's worth it I think since you're preggo to watch your mercury levels but also to get enough fish. Are you taking a fish oil or cod liver oil supplement? That's what I do because I don't eat enough fish (can't afford to) but still want the benefits without the risk. Goodluck and congrats on the baby!

I miss it alot, but I just decided to be paranoid about it and never educate myself, so I haven't had any since I started ttc. My son is still nursing, so I'll celebrate weaning someday with some super high class tuna. Salmon and sardines take the edge off for now.

I too have given up tuna. Canned salmon and sardines are generally what I use in place of tuna.

CLO is really super high in vitamin A in retinol form. Make sure you're taking a special pregnancy formula.
