Heat rash treatment without cortisone??

DD2 is 16mos and has a gnarly heat rash on her shoulders and neck...it's been around for days despite my efforts to keep her cool and clean and dry (she sweats a LOT when she sleeps, even if she sleeps topless). She's scratched it now so much there are little tiny scabs in some places. :-(
Her ped just told me I should be putting 1% hydrocortisone on it 3x/day but...ugh. Cortisone? On a 16mo? Any ideas for helping her stop itching and making this go away without steroids? Or should I just give in to the wonders of modern medicine this time? (along with the antibiotic eye drops we're using right now to treat pink eye...and the antibiotics we're probably going to have to use to treat both my girls if the pertussis test we did last week comes back positive...again..ugh).

Thanks. :-)

I would try raw coconut oil on it. Or, one of the herbal salves from Avena Botanical or another company that make similar products may help.

I'm guessing you have trimmed her nails already, have you tried putting gloves on her? Although at 16 months I'm guessing she'd probably just pull them off! Cucumber or calendula would be good, you can blend up some cucumber and put it on the rash when she's sleeping (otherwise I'm guessing she will just wipe it off!). Keep it on maybe 15-20minutes. Calendula lotion should sooth. Cucumber should take the heat out.

Another thing you might want to address is why she is sweating so much. Does she eat a lot or have a super metabolism? Might be something going on with her thyroid.

Oh and a good product for eye infections is Dr. Schultz Eye formula.

In peace & health,
Kimberly
