So what do I do now? (K and possible CAPD)

So....the short version is my son was taken off his IEP from preschool when he went to kindergarten.

We're about 6 weeks in and we are seeing some fairly obvious (to me, and his teacher sees it too but has not come right out and said if she agrees with me or not) signs of an auditory processing disorder. (see post, same title, new update from yesterday)

So now...I want him re-evaluated. I also know I am going to need a separate medical evaluation for the CAPD.

HOW exactly am I supposed to do this?

Do I:

Find an advocate person right away?

I'm already in communication with my child's teacher. Do I take it also to the principal?

Do I wait for them to say they're going to do their eval and request that a speech pathologist also evaluate him for auditory processing concerns? (I don't see how this is going to help, this is a problem I am noticing in the larger, noisier, generally more distracting environment of the regular classroom, NOT 1-1, and besides that I just read something saying that CAPD children often test well 1-1 but have difficulties in the classroom because of the noisier environment, having to listen to someone who is farther away, just the differences in environment from 1-1 to 30-1 instruction.

Do I go ahead and call my pediatrician and get my referral for the testing he would need?

This is one of those things where I think honestly his preschool people did the best they could, but this is something that doesn't show up in a 1-1 testing situation the same way it does in a classroom...and there's a big difference between him working at a table with a teacher and maybe 7-8 other students versus him listening to one teacher talk to 26. Also in the activities--the activities in preschool just didn't have the same amount of verbal directions. (I taught in early intervention, well, assisted but I had my own small group table and activities.) we also didnt' have the same expectations for independent working ability....

What do I do now? thanks

I responded to your other post again, but I just wanted to agree that one-on-one can be very different for CAPD kids versus a classroom environment. however, I'd be stunned if a speech pathlogist, with CAPD as a condition under question, did not do an appropriate test to account for this. I know our SLP has a specific test- maybe called the Listening Test (I can't remember for sure) using a recording that has background noise made to mimic the classroom environment.
