So much fun planning my 3.5 year old's "nursery"!

We are planning to put DS' room together finally for his Christmas present. He's 3.5 and has been with us fully--like sleeping in or next to us (toddler bed side-carred from 3) since birth, but also his clothes in with ours and he shares our bathroom. We have always called his room "his room", but it's empty.

So I am planning wall colors (blue stripes--either alternating finish or slightly lighter-darker) and looking at furniture (twin or full bed, nightstand, wardrobe/dresser) and even just bought some classic Winnie the Pooh prints for the walls (he loves Milne's Pooh). I was even thinking how funny it is that people use Pooh for a newborn nursery when the original Pooh was meant for 5 year olds. But that's a digression.

Mostly I am thinking how funny it is that I am now doing what many expecting parents do--outfitting/decorating a nursery--but my kid is 3.5, needs a proper bed, hasn't need a changing table in years, etc.

Mostly I am just having fun!

Oh, and I have no idea when he'll actually sleep in said room, we just decided it was time to do it up!

I totally agree - way more fun to decorate when you KNOW the kid's personality.

We are doing the same thing but DD is a little over 2. It's totally fun. We just got the furniture but now I can't figure out what to do with the walls??? I guess there's really no big hurry since i don't foresee her sleeping in there real soon lol!

YES!! I really wonder how many kids love Elmo because everything that was bought from them from the baby shower to age 2 was Elmo. We're Waldorfy, so DS has had virtually no media-exposure--just good quality storybooks and lots of made-up stories between us. His favorites now are Milne's Pooh (his best friends!) and a Parisian cat we made up named Franz. We make up a story about him at least twice a day!

Honestly, we could decorate his room in "Franz" (using whatever we could find of a French-looking food-loving traveling cat and the Eiffel Tower, etc.) and he'd be thrilled!

So yes, knowing my kid and letting him develop his own interests is so great--he's going to love this room!

We are planning all the major stuff to be long-term, like the walls being blue stripes that could hold Pooh prints or Travel Posters, or Baseball pennants. The bed, nightstand and dresser will be solid wood and will suit all ages. The only little boy stuff will be 5 framed classic Pooh prints, maybe a Poo lamp, and I am thinking of maybe one more Pooh thing, or even a not-marketed-as-Pooh thing but that relates to the Pooh stories--like a shelf of honey pots he can keep things in and maybe a wood board sign on his door that says "Mr. Saunders"
