Modest clothing for Barbie?? An oxymoron??

Okay, I've accepted Barbie's presence in our home since 1) all her friends have them, and 2) I'm assured that if I make a big deal about it, it will make her want them more and if I leave it alone, she'll naturally tire of them.

With that said. Is there any reliable source for Barbie clothing that is not so revealing and skimpy? I don't require moo-moos, but something that say, a typical person wouldn't get stared at wearing while walking into Wal-Mart?

It just unnerves me to see my 4yo putting a micro-mini, platform boots and a middrift on her doll. Why do they make these clothes for children???? Most of her stuff is given to her by others and usually comes from yard sales/hand-me-downs since we rarely buy toys new.

What a great idea for etsy?!?! I even checked there for "modest Barbie clothing" to no avail.....

I have no idea, all my daughters Barbies appear to be living in a nudist colony.

Check out only hearts club dolls, and their clothing. My daughter has them and they are the same size as barbies, but they are girl shaped, not woman shaped. My dd calls them her barbies. I wonder if their clothes would fit barbies?

Our barbies are VERY modestly dressed by todays Barbie standards. They wear the clothes that my sister and I had for our barbies in the 60's and 70's. Not only are they modest, they are also real fabric with actual buttons and clasps. It's all peasant skirts and fortrel pants around here.

I have a hard time visualizing barbie looking modest in anything (moo-moos included) due to that outrageously out of proportion body she has! I'm not totally against Barbie, I had them growing up, I just think she looks ridiculous.

Ebay has a lot of very inexpensive handmade and manufactured Barbie clothes- if you're okay with princessy dresses and/or things made in China, you can find a lot of cool, cheap things.

etsy has FANTASTIC, though not always so inexpensive, handmade things for 11.5" dolls like Barbie.

Heck our problem isn't even modesty. Our daughter wants to dress her barbie the way she wants to dress herself. So a couple of weeks ago we went to the store for a new barbie. My daughter wanted one wearing shorts. There wasn't a single one to be found that wasn't in some sort or leggings or a dress (mostly dresses). We picked the one in the sportiest outfit we could find.

Not sure if anyone is still reading this thread -- but there are modest clothes for Barbie on Etsy now, from a few different sellers, I've seen knee length skirts and long skirts, good length shirts that aren't low cut, pajamas and even underwear -- might be worth a look
