Potty training adive

My 21 mo DS is doing pretty good at home using the potty. He will say potty and both pee and poop in his little potty. Dont get me wrong, we still have accidents but I think he is doing excellent for his age.

We are having major problems though when we leave the house. I dont want to confuse him by using diapers but Im just not sure what to do. I bring his little potty, but he cant pee on demand and he gets very mad if I insist he sit on his potty. He also dislikes using big toilets and the little kid ring dont help...

Any advice? How did you transition your LO's potty skills out of the house?

One more thing I should mention is that we do bare-bottom method at home. The minute I put underwear on DS he will pee himself. I think he associates them with diapers. When he is naked he has less accidents. Also, he's not really coordinated yet to pull his pants down.

TIA!

Well, we have approached things a bit differently overall but I can tell you what has worked for us.

We do at least underwear around the house & only use the seat reducer on an actual toilet. I think that has made the transition to go elsewhere easier. Ds cannot handle pulling up or down his pants/underwear so it's totally assisted. Whenever we go somewhere the first thing I do is bring him to the washroom to "try" or at least so he can see that there is in fact a toilet there. And then we do the same thing before we leave somewhere.

He's pretty reliable now & we haven't done diapers at all in at least a month.

We also have done underpants from the get go. I would suggest doing underpants at home too and telling your Lo that you need to keep them nice and dry and praise them a lot when they are dry (i.e. most of the time).

I carry teh toilet reducer with me when we go out with is really annoying but she will not go without it.
