Best, cheapest dog food?

I prefer Innova dog food but it's just too pricey since we've been budgeting.

What is the best, cheapest dog food that is still on the healthy side?

I really like Kirkland (at Costco) - can't beat $25/40lbs for a decent food.

If you can't get to a Costco, I've also had good luck with Taste of the Wild ($35 to $40/35lbs), Canidae ($45/40lbs), and California Naturals ($45/30lbs).

For cheaper, good food I like-

Kirkland (Costco's house brand- Costco also has a grain free formula, and you'd probably more than make up the cost of membership in savings just on dog food)

Nutrisource- about $1/lb, they just came out with some grain free formulas as well, which are a little more pricey

Chicken Soup For the Dog Lovers Soul- about $1/ lb, hokey name, good food

Diamond Naturals- about $1/lb, make sure to look at the naturals line, the regular line is not as good. TSC carries it as well as pet specialty stores

Canidae- about $1/lb, also has grain free options

Earthborne Holistics- a bit more expensive, formula is very similar to Wellness, but less expensive

Healthwise- this is Natura's "budget" brand, the same folks who make Innova

One of the problems I found with cheaper dog food was that my dogs required more of it. I now use Call of The Wild, which isn't cheap, but a little less $$than my other food. The dogs seem to like it, it isn't full of fillers as far as I can tell, and they seem satisfied after eating it. I also put a raw egg mixed in-we have free range hens, so we have lots of eggs!

Thanks for the suggestions. I just joined Costco and was starting to think it was a waste of $$ but might be worth it just for the dog food.

Also, i didn't know Innova had a budget brand -- great tip, thanks!

On another site, I read that the kirkland brand is really good quality for price. I have actually been thinking about getting a membership just for the dog food

kirkland is not a bad option for a budget....and they have a new grain free version as well. More money up front but you feed less.

Another vote for Costco food.

We were feeding Eagle Pack because it was produced semi-locally, and decided to change brands when the company changed ownership. I did lots of research, and the Costco brand seemed to make the most sense. It's worked well for us, and it's so much cheaper than what we were feeding!

I didn't know Earthborn Holistics was affordable, too- if we ever have a reason to switch, I'll look into them, because they're also an Indiana company.

I have had good luck with a brand called 4health, sold at tractor supply co, AKA dels. It's comparable in quality to the kirkland but a couple bucks more. Easier for me to get so the higher price is worth it.
