Just a cranky rant.

I absolutely cannot stand it when people think doulas and midwives are the same thing. That is all.

I'm giggling at your cranky rant. I have to explain this to people a lot! Especially b/c we had a HB transfer, and since I live in a supremely unfriendly-to-HB state, my MW legally had to show up at the hospital as my "doula." So that made it even more complicated.

I feel like every single time I tell someone I'm a doula, they say, "Is that like a midwife?" Arg.

but... but... my doula is a training midwife. Its not what I hired her for though. I just like it as a back-up. I have the doula side to help me labor as long as possible at home and the midwife-in-training side on that rare chance that labor is too fast and I don't make it to the hospital in time.

I had mentioned to my friend that I had been wanting to do doula training, and she kept telling everyone "oh it's too bad Katie didn't finish being a midwife, she could have come to the hospital with me!" Every time I told her DOULA not MIDWIFE! I don't want that kind of pressure

ahh yes I get that all the time with having my training and having a doula attend my births...

I almost prefer the doe eyeed stare of " what is that" instead of having to reeducated.

but my general is ..

A doula take care to the woman from the waist up helping with comfort , emotional and sppirtual wellness. she is there for both the woman and her partner

Ha! I get that about 80% of the time, too.
