Strange bumps *Hand foot & mouth?*

My 5 yo has some little bumps on her feet. At first they looked like fire ant bites like the ones she got in New Orleans. Just small red raised bumps. Maybe 10 of them total? Then I got them on my right ankles. They do not itch. Now my son has some on his lower back. Since they don't itch, I don't see how they would be spider bites. They aren't hives, they don't look like bedbug bites (we stayed at a hotel last week), there are no other symptoms of any kind. Anyone have any idea what this could be?

We've had that before and it's not the same. No fever, mouth blisters, no hand blisters, no pain. Plus several of us have had it before. I just found some on my 10 yo's back, too.

Well, crap. Just looked in my 8 yo's mouth and he has a sore. How in the world can we get this more than once? I thought you could only get it one time? Is this bad when pregnant?

My daughter had it twice when she was in preschool. I caught a milder version from her both times. I had heard adults don't get it and that kids get it only once too. My son never did get it. Who knows!

You can get it more than once - there are multiple viruses associated with these symptoms, and adults can get it, too.

My son has had the 'coxsackievirus' twice! The first time was awful. We didn't know for a while what it was. He spiked a fever, and complained of his mouth hurting. We wrote it off as teething. Then I took him into the doctor after he refused to nurse. I knew something was wrong, even when he is sick, he still wants milk. We discovered sores in his mouth.

His lasted about 5 days the first time, about 2 or 3 the second. He only had a couple of sores on his feet, but a whole bunch in his mouth. The hardest thing is that he didn't want to eat or drink anything because they were painful. I ended up alternating tylenol and motrin because that was the only thing that would calm the pain enough for him to eat.

I bought and offered almost anything and everything under the sun to him during this period. His favorite: Lollipops. I found a good brand with no HFCS, so we were both happy! They really helped his throat.

Good luck! Hope everyone heals quickly!

When the kids got it I ended up with it and it was the 3rd time I have had it.
