OK, so this thread really got me motivated. I had last Thursday off for Veteran's Day and Friday was a mandated furlough day for us, so I used the four days off to work on my house. While I guess it wasn't "hoarders" messy, it was getting pretty gross. I wish now I had taken before pictures, but I was honestly too afraid of how it would look.
So, I cleaned the kitchen, family room, living room, bathrooms, master bedroom and one kid bedroom. I filled up at least 5-6 big black garbage bags of trash (horrible I know) and another 3-4 large boxes of items that we donated to our local charity. I pretty much started from the ground up. Cleaned out every drawer and closet in those rooms, dusted, vacuumed, washed walls etc.
I still have to finish the second kid bedroom and my dining room. The only problem is that my dining room table ended up piled high with the "stuff I don't know what to do with" I know I just need to tackle it, but it's so intimidating. And...I don't know what to do with all of it. It's things like school papers that are too cute to throw away, photos, magazines I haven't read but hope to, paperwork that I need to go through, etc.
After I get those rooms done, I am bound and determined to keep it clean, and to finish all of the small projects that need to be done around the house.
My next goal is to paint the trim and interior doors in the house...all of them. This needed to be done when we moved in this house (FIVE years ago...ack!!!) and I never did it. I am going from a tan color to white and I am hoping it will really make the woodwork pop and will make everything look cleaner (which will be good...one of my problems is that I never think my house looks CLEAN...we have old carpet etc and really can't get it replaced right now).
And, after that, I am going to make a prioritized list and just tackle things one at a time. I have found that I easily get overwhelmed with all of the things that need to be done so I end up not doing any of it.
How are the rest of you doing?
