Flu vaccine

post #1 of 40
Thread Starter
Has anyone received yet? or planning to? I just got mine a couple of days ago. I had no choice due to my line of work....

this will probably get moved to vaccinations

I have decided not to get one. I am actually pretty pro.vax but I'm going to skip it.
post #3 of 40
Nope. We don't vax. Not to mention this vax has been banned in Australia due to complications (and the fact that this batch has the H1N1 in it - something i won't risk taking during pregnancy due to the miscarriage risk).

Nope, not going to.
post #5 of 40
nope, definately not going to.

I haven't gotten a vax of any kind in over 7 years. So....definately not.
post #7 of 40
I probably won't. I've never gotten a flu shot, so I don't think I'd feel comfortable getting one now while pregnant. I haven't had the flu in years, so it seems that hand-washing and a little above average cleanliness keeps us healthy through flu season.

For anyone who wants to read some fantastic and thoroughly researched articles on flu and pregnancy, check out Barbara Herrara's blog, and Gloria Lemay's blog.

No vax here as well.

Even if I did have any shred of faith in vaccines, I wouldn't get the flu vaccine because it doesn't even protect you against anything. If I remember right, they base it off of last year's flu strain(s?) and by this year, the strains have already changed. So, it does nothing except maybe make you sick or cause problems.

Nope I have no idea what's in it I don't want to expose my miracle baby to anything unnecessary.

I got it. We do vax and I am 4 times in risk groups. I am a healthcare worker working with ill older adults. I have a small child. I have asthma. And then there's the pregnancy though I know some disagree on that.

Knock on wood. I've had the flu only twice in my life - one in junior high and college. I know I'm not super immune but I just don't feel at risk. I've only had the flu shot one year when I was caring for my first (late) husband with cancer and immediately got sick after.

* Polysorbate 80 (Tween80™): can cause severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis. Also associated with inferility in female mice.
* Formaldehyde: known carcinogen
* Triton X100: a strong detergent
* Sucrose: table sugar
* Resin: known to cause allergic reactions
* Gentamycin: an antibiotic
* Thimerosal: mercury is still in multidose flu shot vials

No. Never have, never will. Have you read the study about five consecutive flu shots increasing your chances for Alzheimer's by 10x? Most nurses and doctors that I know decline the flu shot too.
post #19 of 40
no. hadn't even thought of it. i'm surprised it wasn't brought up at my appt.

I won't.
