Is it too late to impose a deadline?

Thread Starter
A couple of weeks ago we asked the parents of my dd's friend if friend could go on an overnight trip with us. We've talked a few times since but with no answer. Since we didn't give a deadline for the answer when we originally asked, is it rude to tell them that we need an answer by xyz date? It's not a huge deal, but it would be nice to know how many to plan for.

Not rude at all. "We were wondering if you've decided if friend will be able to go with us. We need to continue making our plans. Do you think you could let us know by X?"

Not rude at all. There comes a point by which you just have to know so you can make accommodations. If someone invited my kids on a trip I would let them know as soon as possible and even if I was undecided and did not have an answer yet (things like this often have to get run past their dad if it interferes with his visitation) I would make sure to give them frequent updates on the progress and even ask when they need to know by.

Yes to this. And its rude of the other party to keep you dangling.
