October 2009 Mums and TODDLERS! - Page 3

B was 8 lbs 12 oz at birth and is now 18 lbs 1 oz, and 29 inches long.
My little guy was 8lbs at birth and 20lbs at 1 year.

Nice to see you all over here! However I don't want to call my baby a toddler yet! Maybe when he starts toddling
post #43 of 119
Uhm... can I join you folks?

My husband and I are in serious denial that it's less than two weeks until we have one year olds. We haven't even bought them a present yet... no present, no birthday, right? Right?!

*Cough* Anyhow. Tycho was 6lb1oz at birth, and we're expecting him to be about 18.5ish lbs at a year, maybe a little more. Kepler was 4lb10oz at birth, and we're guessing about 18ish now. Their ped visit is on Nov. 2nd, so we'll find out for sure then!

I just can't believe how far we've come!

Welcome Calarei! And congratulations on your twins being almost one.

It is completely unbelievable to me that my little girl is one already. Sigh.....my last little baby.

How are all the other birthday babies doing? Any more updates?
well, dd will be one next week and just this past Saturday she took her first steps on her own! She has developed a habit of chewing food and then spitting it out. Ick! Hope its just a phase.
Happy birthday to all the Oct babies.

Lyra's spitting food out too. And smashing it into the tray of her high chair and smearing it all over, like she's wiping it with a cloth. A food cloth. Oy vey.

It is so hard to believe that our babies are one! Dylan turned 1 on the 10th. He is finally crawling and pulling up on his own, but not standing or anywhere close to walking.

We did find out last week that he is allergic to eggs. I had him allergy tested as I was still convinced that his fizziness and lack of sleep was attributed to something. Eggs it is.

Then, today, he had his well baby visit and he is too small. He is only in the 2nd percentile. He had been keeping in the 5th. I feel like a horrible mom. He doesn't really lime to eat very much so I haven't forced the issue (we still bf mostly). Anyway, we are going to work on getting up his weight. I am just feeling like I did something wrong.

Anyway, enough sad stuff. I love reading about all the babies and how far they have all come along!

this year has gone by WAY too fast! reagan turned 1 a few weeks ago. she actually got 2 parties, which were fun. as i expected, she did not like the whole cupcake action. she hates her hands being sticky, so i wasn't too surprised at her reaction to frosting. here's some pics from her 2 birthdays:

she's been walking since she was 9 months old and has now started running. she is also climbing like crazy!!! i can't keep her off of things, she's driving me nuts!! she has 10 teeth now, including her top first molars, which aren't all the way through so that's been tough. she's a blast though! she says mama, dada, nah nah nah (for boobie), ah doh (all done), and she can hold a conversation but we have no idea what she's saying!! the girl can just chatter on for 5 minutes or more!! when she was born she weighed 8lbs 6oz and was 20" long. at her 12 month appointment last week, she was 23lbs 2.5oz and 31" tall. i was worried about her weight because she's a picky eater, and everyone around here keeps saying that she's so small, but the doctor says she's fine, 76th % for her weight and something like 96th% for her height. her ped says a lot of people in our area formula feed and actually overfeed so by the time they are 1, their babies are fat. that definitely made me feel better! now, whenever dh sees a fat baby, he asks the parents if the baby is formula fed! can't wait to see what the next year brings us!

awww hugs meredith! natalie has never been on the charts and she's just fine. you aren't a bad mom! someone has to be 99% and someone has to be 2% ans more someones than we realize will not even be on the charts. i think the charts are ridiculous and are no way a sole indicator of anything but a pattern of growth. they don't take anything other than weight and height into consideration and most are skewed by formula feeding. millie is almost 22lbs and is just at 55% on the chart? wtfe.

so, try not to put much into the chart and just do what you and dylan need to be happy! s!

well this appears to be what happened. i'm in shock and due in june. 1st test i took was -, but then after both dh & i were experiencing pg symptoms, we tested on our 4 yr wedding anniv. & got the bfp. i am a little worried b/c i have experienced some bleeding, but i just saw my midwife and she said it looks good (i have also had many beta level checks that all look good).

vlad
had his 1st b-day this past sunday. he's 23.5 lbs & 28". we had about 20 friends & family over for lunch. ds skipped his am nap, refused his cake, split his lip on a fall in his tired state, & ended up taking a nap before anyone left. everyone eventually left and we opened his gifts. he still doesn't want any of the pumpkin cake dh made him. he called the shots. overall it was a fun get together.

I hate "the chart" it is so friggin stupid. DD has always been in the 90th percentile. ALWAYS, her whole life. A year or so ago at my WIC appt I was informed that she was "overweight" because she was 36lbs and 36 inches, then she grew taller and wasn't, well now she's back to a BMI of 18.3 and that makes her "overweight"......dumb, dumb, dumb......

DS is in the 50th and they act like, well he's doing pretty good, uh he's in the middle...

In the fight of obesity it is now standard practice to label children over the 80th percentile as *overweight* which I find to be a fairly stupid thing, children and adults are different and so of course there will be larger and smaller people. My niece who is 8 months younger than my DD is at least 2 inches taller and bigger, so she obviously is "off the chart". My nephew is off the chart on the bottom, the kid wears size 4 dipes at age 3. Both are related and are totally different sizes. Ok rant over.

astar326-Congrats! Maybe it's a girl? I only say because with Owen my bbs hurts SO BAD, I couldn't even wear regular bras. With DD they never hurt.

Congrats, Astar! That makes, what? three people from our DDC that are expecting again?

E had her birthday party two weekend ago. We had a circus theme. It was really fun. We overdid it a little this year, but plan to do REALLY lowkey affairs for the next few birthdays.

She had her check-up yesterday. She was 6lbs 4 oz at birth and is now 18 lbs, 8 oz. She's also 31 inches tall. She's in the 80th or so percentile for height and the 10th for weight.
Congrats, astar! Amazing that you never got a ppaf (I'm sure you didn't miss her of course, ).
I feel bad because we're not having a party for dd. We just don't have very many friends and anyway no room in our apartment even if we did invite some. Anyway she won't miss it, right? Didn't have a party for ds's first either. Or his second, for that matter.
Dd took her first unassisted steps last Saturday, but hasn't been doing much more walking. She still prefers to hold someone's hand.

I've found myself kinda weepy about it too!! It's so cliché to say it, but IT'S REALLY FLOWN BY!!

I took a bath with DD yesterday and as I held her in the water (and of course when she saw the "nums" she wanted to nurse!) I had this crazy weird flashback of her being born (in water) and the first time I held her and nursed her....her body in my arms, the warm water flowing over us... but then she was so tiny and now she's huge! And she just smiled up into my face and I felt so incredibly blessed. And also so sad that her babyhood is gone forever! Why is there always such a bittersweetness to motherhood?

1 year update:
Born at 7lb 9oz, now just below 20 lbs. She is walking and has a few words and signs. She actually can kick a ball (like a soccer dribble) across, the room as she goes, laughing all the while. Too funny. She is very precocious. Loves the danger and adventure, LOL! Still BF's and we still haven't figured out the sleep thing, but she eats well. However, still no teeth have cut. For those with babes at the low end of the growth chart, she is one of them too.

Just fyi... There are eggs in most vaccinations and the flu shot.
