*~* Bitter Sushi Ladies - October 2010 Thread! *~*

Thread Starter
Welcome to the October thread, ladies!!!

This is a thread for those who have been TTC for a long time, whether 6 months, 12 months, or more. At this point many of us are at or past 1 or 2 years, many have had losses, many are dealing with various forms of infertility, and some are just in a waiting period until they can TTC again.

The name? Well, all things considered we tend to be a little bitter sometimes. So read with care . And due to everything, our emotions run a little raw like sushi. Too many cycles of BFN and CD1 sushi & sake to console ourselves. This TTC business is something that seems to "just happen" for so many...but we just can't seem to get it right. So this is where we can be together, share and express anything.

Yay new thread. Boo AF. CD2 today and it has been a doozy. I started yesterday, right after getting off the phone with my best friend. She had just gone to the doctor at 40w3d and found out she was 2cm dialated so he went ahead and sent her to the hospital. She had a beautiful 7lb 14oz little boy at 1am today after pitocin for 12 hours which eventually led to decels in his heart rate and a c-section. I'm driving down tomorrow after my physical assessment skills validation in school, but so bummed that I have to snuggle her and the sweet baby in the hospital the whole time when I was really looking forward to taking care of her at home. And just to add some more pain to this pity party of mine, another sweet friend of mine is in the same hospital, just a few doors dow, having to make the decision tomorrow whether or not to take her 3 week old little girl off of the ventilator. My heart is breaking in joy and pain.

I know so many of you will understand both types of pain. My husband doesn't really get why all my friends having babies is painful to me. He feels like since I made it into this great nursing plan my life is suddenly supposed to feel more full and I should happy to not be juggling a baby during all this. Obviously I do not feel this way. It's just been one of those freaking days.

I hate when weekends are something I feel like I have to get through.

Thanks for the new thread MbA!

I'm finally doing it! I am hiding every gd person who posts about their (or their partners) pregnancy on facebook. I can't take it. I just hide 'em, anytime I see a mention of it. I have been thinking about doing it for months, and now that I'm finally doing it - and to pretty much everyone, even good friends - I feel LIBERATED! I encourage others to try...

miriam b_a: Thanks for the new thread! So festive.

Rochelle and jenger:

6 DPO and I have no hope for this cycle--we missed O-1 because DH's blood sugar was shockingly high and I was afraid BD'ing would kill him. Ready for the next cycle to start (which sucks, since I have 9-12 more days in my luteal phase). Ah, well. Better luck to the rest of you!
Thank you MbA for the beauty of a new thread!

Oh Rochelle I completly understand how bittersweet this weekend will be for you. I hope you can feel my support.

Jenger - that is a great idea - time to do some "housecleaning"!

And to Kinza I hope your DH is ok.

AFM - CD 8 trying to be careful with temps and vitamins - giving myself I fighting chance.
Well, I've been doing HPTs for the last few days to see if the trigger shot has got out of my system. I tested BFN on Wednesday.

Today I tested and got a BFP. I am trying not to get too excited - I have my beta on Monday at my doctor's office, and will see what the numbers are. But I am hopeful. And very cautious. I know that false negatives are reasonably common - can the same be said for false positives?
Sly!!! From what I have read - it's common to get a false negative but uncommon to get the false positive (unless you used the dreaded blue dye)..

CONGRATULATIONS!!
Wow! I don't log in for 24 hours and I come back to a new thread and all kinds of action!

MBA - THANK YOU for the new thread! May the job of threadkeeper bring you lots and lots of luck!

slylives - Ow, ow, owwwwwwww!!! That's wonderful. I know you are trying not to get too excited, so I'll do it for you. My understanding is that false positives are not common at all. GL on Monday!

http://www.babyhopes.com/articles/falsepositive.html

Kinza - Does your DH have diabetes? Sorry about the crummy luck!

jenger - Sweet relief! About a month ago I hid all of my 'friends' who post constantly about their cute little kids and wonderful family activities and fabulous family vacation photos. I enjoy Fbook much more these days!

SimplyRochelle - Blech. Hang in there. Sounds like a bit of a challenging weekend ahead for you. You can get through it; it sounds like you are very good friend.

Luminesce - Right with you in the TWW. No idea what day though since I didn't keep track of anything this month. Not yet sure if I regret that approach. Think I'm around 9DPO.

Taxlady - Sounds like you are gearing up to O! Baby dust to you this month! Have fun.

AFM - Kinda wish I knew what CD I was on. But then again, not really. Feeling super-calm and accepting these days, probably thanks to the workshop last weekend. I wonder if I could do the workshop once every 2-3 months, to keep my hope and positivity strong? They might think I was a little insane, showing up all the time
post #9 of 454
No, false positives are way less common than false negatives! Congrats slylives!!!
Sly - OMG wow, a positive test. I understand you don't want to get too excited, I am so excited for you though.

Jenger - great idea. I am off to hide a few people now.

MBA Thanks for the new thread. I love the new thread at the beginning of the month - less posts to keep up with.

AFM - I am planning to re-assess the vitamins that I take (or, don't take) today. I stopped taking all the pills when I started the miscarriage (which is funny, because DH is totally still great about taking them every day). I am looking for some good web sites with info about dosages to take - everything that I have found has lists of supplements (which I know), but I have not found anything about how much to take - anybody know of anything?

I hope you are open to a new member.
DH & I have been TTC since February of 2008. I finally went to the Infertility Specialist & I am on Clomid now. Today is CD23. I could start as early as Monday(the 4th), but if not I go in Friday(the 8th) for blood pregnany test.
BTW, I LOVE the name of this thread. It is PERFECT. TTC is such a draining emotional journey.

Sly- CONGRATS! -Stick baby bean, stick!- Like the other ladies said a false positive is very rare unless you are on Clomid.

Simply- I am sorry you are having such a hard time. Men just really do NOT understand how hard & draining TTC can be. *hugs*

Rochelle: Yikes, what a lot to juggle emotionally

I find, for some reason, that when it comes to people who have had fertility issues, I'm not in the slightest jealous and rarely bitter around their cute babies. I guess it's because the feeling that they earned it trumps that "ugh, they didn't even try and THEY got a baby!" feeling that I get with others. Which is totally unfair and no one's fault anyways, but it happens. Still avoiding two pregnant friends, but I am going to see little redhead Joshie who is two months old tomorrow when DH and I go to a fair with him and his parents. And I'm excited to snuggle him. Trying to convince myself that I should not wear the Moby wrap that I totally have upstairs so I can put him in it and carry him around. No no no... *ahem*

I actually don't have a lot of those right now, since my pregnant friends are relatively inactive on FB, but there are a few who just post about their kids all. day. long and I can't take it. So I might go for it too.

Kinza: You missed 0-1, but did you get any other BDs in? Come on, girl, you're a veteran, you know you have more chances than that!

Taxlady: You're so good with the vitamins... I've forgotten my prenatals the past two days because I haven't had to take Clomid as well. Whoops.

Sly: Woooo!!! A BFP!!! GO LARRY GO!

Seriously, I think you're going to need to name this child Larry. or Larissa. I'll get started on the personalized embroidered quilt now and just stop after "L-A-R"

Good luck with the beta on Monday! You better post from your phone in the car and let us know how it goes!!! Just uh, have someone else drive. haha.

collieflower: Being calm will really make a difference in your stress level, and that can only be a good thing. So lots of zen baby vibes for you

rcr: You too with the vitamins... I need to get on that. I've been taking some baby aspirin and Mucinex since I bought it yesterday, but I'm thinking I don't need them yet because I'm not getting +OPKs yet...

~AA~: Welcome! We're always open to new members. How's this for a front page summary: "Trying with DH since Feb 2008, on Clomid" or do you want a bit more?

I'm also taking Clomid. What's your dosage and how have your side effects been?
slylives: I understand why you don't want to be excited yet, but I am so excited for you (just like everyone else!). I, too, have only read about false negatives being common, not false positives.

Taxlady and collieflower: Thanks for asking about DH. He's fine now--he does have Type 1 diabetes that is usually controlled. He was taking a steroid temporarily for something specific, and steroids screw with blood sugar. So, he was a pretty miserable guy the other day. And collieflower, if the workshop keeps you calm and positive, I think you should go whenever you feel like it!

~AA~: Welcome and I hope your stay is short! Good luck with this medicated cycle.

X-posted with Miriam: Yes, we got in O-2, O-5 and O+1. I know, still a shot with the two days before and the day after (in case there were two eggs), but still, I just don't feel it this time around. Thanks for the cheers, though

So, just when I thought I knew everything there was to know about ttc, I came across this baby aspirin thing a few days ago. Why do you take it? How much? Only after a +opk? It is on my list of potential stuff to take now. I need to look into it more.

It has just occurred to me that while everyone here knows of my struggles, my Facebook "friends" do not. I actualy post pistures of my son doing various super cute things...you know... breathing, and assorted other cute things. (not every day but at least once every couple weeks.)
I wonder how many people have blocked ME. Ha! How dare they!

Oh and rcr yes, aspirin is after O and before AF
Interestingly I seem to be unable to take my vitamins after I O. It's like I'm so sick of all the things I take leading up to O, that when I finally do, I just want to stop...but that's when I really should be taking them.

AFM: I'm going to do a saliva hormone test tomorrow. A 5dpo test to measure DHA, progesterone, blah blah blah. The accupuncturist recommended it. (Why not 6 months ago you ask?) She suddenly seems concerned why I'm not pregnant yet Great! Me too! I ought to have the results back in a week. It was $150 Gah!! This baby better be a boy because I have boy stuff everywhere from my son. A little girl is going to be wearing her big brother's clothes since it's costing me so much to conceive her! I hope she likes trucks and transformers!

Can you believe through all this I haven't had DH go through one test? If I am not preg this cycle he is getting boxed up and shipped off for a semenalysis.
So, I have closed my door and blown off work all day. I don't feel bad about it at all, since the men here all get paid 10% more than I do... maybe I should start doing 10% less work

I have been searching the internet for TTC female vitamins, and making a promise to myself to actually take them. Here is my potential list, what do you think (many of these I already have, but don't actually take too often, btw)?

E - 400 iu (this also has 250 selemium in it) - I have seen dosages everywhere from 400 to 2000 iu - maybe I should take more? The prenatel also has 400 iu, so that would be 800 iu total.

B- complex - 50 mg (this also has 250 mg of C). The prenatel I take has 50 mg of B6, and this complex has 50 mg of b6. Should I take more? I did have a LPD.

EPO - 1300 mg

l-arginine - 1000 mg (this was a surprise to me that it can help female fertility, because DH has been on it for a long time now)

D - 2000 iu (plus the prenatel has 400 iu)

baby asprin after O

What about Zinc? The prenatel has 15 mg in it. I can't find any dosage info online.

rcr - Don't you work in academia or research or something like that? And your male colleagues still make more? Not cool!

Thanks for starting this supplement discussion. I would add the following:

B complex - I only take 50mg and the difference in my LP has been huge! It used to be all over the place, and usually too short. Now it is exactly 14 days. Every single month. I love it. Now if only I could get the first half of the cycle to be somewhat regular...

Magnesium - for me, this is the key to handling stress. I take 250 mg twice each day. I notice when I forget to take it.

On the baby aspirin front - I have a clotting disorder (the opposite of the usual; my blood does not like to clot, and my body kills off my platelets, so they are really low). So I've always wondered if I could safely take BA, but assume it's a bad idea? A question for my haematologist, I guess!

oh, and enigo - thank you for making me laugh every time I read one of your posts!

Really - magnesium for stress. I'll have to look into that. I have a bunch of stress. thanks.

Yea, I am a professor. The men make more than me, and there are 30 of them (men) and 4 of us (women) - and we all make a lot less. That kind of inequity is prolific in academia - especially at big state schools like mine - plus, it is a lot more difficult for women to get tenure. There is a book called "why so slow" about the inequities in business (all types of professions) and academia that is really wonderful. I anonymously slipped a copy into my bosses mailbox about a year ago
post #20 of 454
mba- Yes that reads fine to me! Thank you!
I took 50mg for 5 days this past cycle, but my progestrone test came back that my levels aren't as high as they would like so they are doubling the dose next cycle. IF I am not pregnant, which I am pretty sure I am not.
No side effects for me so far. I feel lucky, but I am also afraid with a higher dose I might not be so lucky.
What dose are you on? Any side effects?
Oh & I completely agree about being happier for people with babies who struggled to concieve. It is so hard to be genuinely excited for someone who only tried a few months.

kinza-Thank you!

rcr- I thought the same thing as you. I had no idea about the baby aspirin.
Thanks for all the info.
