Help! Company on Sat

I really need some ideas to fix how my entry way/front closet look by then. Preferably very cheap & not time consuming ideas; I need to clean my kitchen, bathroom & living room too. Already mostly did the dining room & made a start on the kitchen & living room.

Here's some pictures so you get an idea what I need to fix.

View from the stairs to the door, kitchen & dining room are to the right, closet is in the opening to the left, bathroom is the door on the left by the entrance.

Space between the closet & door to the basement. At the moment it's gated off to keep N out of the cat's food.

Inside the closet. This is where our cat litter box & food are. I have no where else to put them without needing to leave the basement door open.

Also in the closet, the red at the bottom is the box of fresh litter. You can also see the steam mop & the bags on top of the litter box.

Any ideas? I mostly need to do something with all the shoes, I think. It'd be nice to not have to move them every time I need to get into either the closet or the basement.

Can you put one of those on the door shoe holders up?

Yes, def. put the shoes over the door. You could find a metal one, and let it hand on the outside. No reason to hide it. Get rid of the one in the floor. Is company going to be putting jackets in the closet? I think it is fine to leave the kitty stuff, just clean it right before company comes

I would hang your coats and reusable bags (plastic needs to go somewhere else) in the closets (get another over the door hook for the inside of the closet) add a nice framed picture (what a great place for a family photo!) above the coat hooks, then put down a brightly colored runner on the floor that coordinates with the above picture. Target would be quick and dirty!

No Target here, but I'll see what I can get a Zellers. Now I just need to motivate myself to walk up there (no car or I'd try the Wal-Mart that's "near by")

I never even thought of an over the door shoe holder. Not sure one would hold dh's boots, but at least that would just be one pair on the floor. And I wouldn't have to fight to get in the basement anymore!
