Wow...October? Really? I need to catch up!
How do those who celebrate/participate in Halloween go about this? Do you do group themes, everyone for themselves, some matched some not? I always toy with a family theme but it never pans out. This year Brian is wearing his beekeeping suit and the two littlest are going to be bees. The boys and I will be pirates, and my eldest dd will be a raccoon. She makes her costume every year and is a different woodland creature each year. This year is a little more grown up and that makes me happy for her but weirds me out too. Nothing immodest, just older.
I am really excited for cooler weather! Crockpot cooking and yummy smells and warm clothes.

I feel like I completely missed October.

I told DH today I have a feeling we'll end up with one more after these babies are born and he just about drove the car off the road, .

Just back from a week at Disney. Thankfully the kids are small. I can fit 3 in Disney's double stroller. Dh is strong and at one point had one kid on his shoulders and was carrying 2 others.

motion sickness and morning sickness are not good travel companions...

Hi Ladies

A couple of days ago my third child Lottie turned 18 so now I have three adult kids which make me feel really old. We are having a party for her on Saturday so I am busy cleaning and cooking in preparation.

Not much else to report, hope everyone here is well.

Am - when are your twins due? must be getting close...

Question

Does having more kids make you more strict about some things?

When we had one or two kids we were super relaxed about everything. Now I find I'm enforcing a lot stuff like certain toys must stay in certain rooms, food must be consumed at the table or outside, etc. Sometimes I feel bad that our other kids have more restrictions than our first did.

I'm 32 weeks and due Dec. 6. I'm having some high blood pressure issues actually. I have to go in for blood work today and have been doing the 24 hour urine collection thing. Praying it's nothing, but I have a persistent headache too, so I'm a little concerned. I'm so glad we caught it right at the beginning though.

Oh, absolutely. I had all the grand plans about being completely open-ended and child-centered about food, before I realized it was completely out of control. Same with toys. And clothes. And pretty much everything.

Eat celery and cucumbers to help lower your blood pressure!!!

Sorry I was lurking and saw this. I have to opposite right now and when I was researching of what I could do for rising mine, i read that celery and cucumbers were good to lower it and so if I want to help mine rise, i can't eat those too often.

HTH!!!

Absolutely! I feel kind of bad about it at times, actually, wondering if I am being a control freak or something. We unschooled for a while, and were super lax in an attempt to allow the kids to self regulate. When it became apparent that our kids needed more structure, it was super hard to enforce, and not it feels like we've gone the other way. Kids have to ask for food, no food except at the table (still working on that rule), etc. It's tricky to strike a balance.

Prayers for you, AM!

I had my little guy October 12th! He's totally precious. I wound up with a c/s (my third) and my poor uterus is not holding up well after 3 c/s and an ectopic repair surgery. My lower uterine segment is paper thin and was falling apart as the OB tried to stitch it back together So idk if I'll ever get to be a true mom of many.

Hi MoMs! I posted this thread in teens too but am hoping maybe a few of you knowledgeable MoMs here have some ideas or exp. It's hard to raise 2 groups of DCs (teens and youngers) esp when you don't know how well you've raised the first and know that there are differently things you want to do differently.

Hope everyone's enjoying their Octobers- it'll be gone soon!

I think we are strict but that doesn't mean that the kids behave!!!!!!!!!
I don't tolerate bad behavior (cussing, hurting siblings, etc) but that doesn't mean they don't do those things!! So frustrated lately, seems like all they do is bug me for food, bicker, and complain about everything!!! I'm definitely having a "omg why did i have all these naughty kids???!!!" moment right now!

Baby is great, though. He's just sweet and smiley and perfect : ) for now...

How do you ENFORCE intolerance of bad behavior? My kids don't seem to respond to consequences, even consistent consequences. Like if I ground them or send them to time out or whatever, it doesn't change what choice they make next time! I wish I knew how to change their behavior. I wish we were a pleasant big family...why do I think that exists? Where everyone is glad to have friends in the family to play with and does creative fun things together? I feel like we were like that and now it's just bicker, fight and bicker more! What happened????? And will it be like this forever??????
