what kind of mama cloth?

I'm wanting to give cloth menstrual pads a try but have never used anything like it before. I'll like to buy some off Etsy since I can't sew to save my life but tgere's so many options there! Some say wings are nice, others say they add bulk and cause wicking/side leaks. Some are fleece, cotton, flannel. I'm so confused! Someone guide me?

I have some from Homestead Emporium that are bamboo velour. Recently I got some from Tree Hugger that are minkee topped and they are a bit more bulky but don't stain (which I love). Wings are definitely a must for me because I wouldn't want the pads sliding around while I walk and stuff. I know that some of the HE ones have wings that are just waterproof fleece as opposed to the absorbent material wrapping around (which is the kind I got) so if you have wing leak problems that may help.

I'd just get a couple at a time to try out different brands and styles before you invest a lot. Oh, and if you want a waterproof backing your options are PUL or fleece - I like the fleece because it's more breathable and helps to prevent the pad from sliding around.

Here is another place that I've been thinking about trying. Her pads are really economically priced so I'm thinking I may get some of my postpartum cloth from there:

I bought some mama cloth from Party in my Pants (PIMPs) to use postpartum. I LOVE them. I know they are a bit more expensive than what you would find on Etsy. But, you may want to check them out and then see if you can find a similar style of pad from an Etsy seller. I like how PIMPs are all one piece, so there isn't any hassle. And they use a nylon waterproofing, which I think probably breathes better than PUL, but isn't as thick as fleece. Also, when I ordered my pads, I did a Google search for coupon codes, and found one that took 10% off my order. I'm not sure if that would make it much cheaper than buying from Etsy, but it's something to consider.

Good luck in your mama cloth search! I will never use anything else (for postpartum, at least, because I also have a DivaCup.)

so i've been researching all morning. dumb q: what is the differece between pads and liners?? liners come in all sorts of absorbencies too and i'm having a hard time picturing them.

I have a great stash of "fluff" from her. The difference between the liners and the pads are levels of absorbency and waterproofing.

Moonpads by epicerma on etsy! Wearing one now and loving it.

I have a party in my pants liner and am not in love. It's ok but not my fave.

I have an assortment from several sellers on HC and many that I made myself. I prefer wings because they stay in place much better. I also prefer fleece versus PUL backing - they don't move around as much and are much more breathable.

Liners are typically thinner than other pads and have less absorbency. Many wear them as every day pads. I think they're supposed to be comparable to disposable pantiliners.

I tried a few different kinds and have been happiest with the ones from Amy's Rag Bag. They have cloth fasteners instead of snaps and there is lots of flexibility in what you get. Her site has lots of info about fabrics, etc.

I only have 2, but found I love the velour topped waterproof one-burgundy colored so it doesn't appear to stain. I have a flannel topped that pilled and looks ugly and stained.
