How much more absorbant are sposies??

DS needs to be in disposables for the next 2 weeks for medical reasons. He has some granulation on his belly button that got cauterized this morning and it needs to be exposed to air... we use BumGenius pocket diapers exclusively and they come up over his belly button where he's only 10 weeks old.

He hasn't been in disposable diapers since the meconium days and I feel totally out of my element! I know in general they are MORE absorbant than cloth, but it seems so counterintuitive since they are so much thinner. I am trying to handicap my nighttime diapering routine. Usually DS does not need to be changed during the night, unless he poops or is up nursing a lot. With a disposable one, do you think this would remain the case?

It depends on what kind.....for us with ds I used to use a BG 3.0 with a Hemp Babies, a hemp Stuffins with an extra oval and a BG MF insert...and even all that did not get him thru the night! I decided to try some Pampers extra protection on him and those also didn't get him thru the night not to mention he was allergic to them. So, next I tried Huggies Overnights. They have worked awesome for us! Plus ds doesn't seem to be allergic to them although we do put some Burts Bee diaper cream on him almost every night. They get him thru the night and then some.

I used sposies on my first DD exclusively and we use a sposie on DD2 at night. I've never had to change them at night for pee with a sposie.

for most babies, most sposies will last through the night without issue. and during the day when my daughter was in sposies if she didn't poop we could get through changing her only twice if we needed to. Sposies are way more absorbent, and will start to puff up if very wet.

the thinness does make it hard to believe they'll store much, but they've got those little beads that absorb moisture and turn into gel. like the ones you can put in the ground when you plant something. its magical. name brand are less likely to leak. but it prolly depends on your baby's proportions.
