3.5 year old and leg pain

My Ds jumped off a slide on Labor Day. He cried and said it really hurt. The next day it was swollen and he was still limping so I took him to the Doctor. The ped checked it out and said he would give me a script for an xray but that it was prob fine and that I should wait a dew more days. Two days later he was still limping so I went and got it xrayed. It was fine. He limped for a week or so, but we chalked it up to thinking he needed to. The last couple of days he has randomly said it hurt, but he has a communication delay (goes behind just speech) and cant really elaborate on where exactly it hurts or how it feels. For the last couple of nights he woke up kinda crying, but last night he was screaming that his foot hurt. He screamed for like 20 minutes, I gave him tylenol and he finally fell back to sleep. It seems okay today, but I am not sure what could be going on.

So Could the xray miss somthing, or could it be like a ligament, or could the pain last night be growing pains and not really related to the old injury? Any ideas???

Who read the x-ray? DS just broke his elbow, and the pediatrician (who referred us to a pediatric orthopedist) remarked that kid x-rays can be really hard to read, and he won't even do it. He always refers to a specialist.

Since that happened a month ago, scores of moms I know have said that their kids had broken bones for weeks sometimes b/c the original x-ray was misread.

So, it could be nothing (or, like you said, more of a sprain), or it could be a hairline fracture. Any chance you could see a ped ortho?

Hope you can figure it out.

I'm curious if they definitely got a view of the foot in the x-ray, too. If it was his leg/knee that was swollen & hurting previously, maybe they just took a look at the leg & perhaps one of his foot bones is broken? It seems like he'd still be limping, though. Poor guy. Keep us posted!

Just wanted to update that I called the ped and he thought we should try to get more xrays and added more views of the ankle and leg itself. We went friday night, so we should hear back Mondayish. I will keep you all updated. And thanks for the advice.
