Nora just turned one and for the last four months or so was eating a solid breakfast/lunch/dinner - in addition to breastfeeding 6-7x in a 24 hour period. She recently started sleeping better and for longer stretches which is WONDERFUL but in the meantime her food intake has suffered. She used to eat a jar of baby food (or the equivalent) with some rice or quinoa per meal. Now she won't even eat three bites of rice per meal. She is constantly trying to stand up in her chair and just grits her teeth and won't let anymore in. I'm not sure what to do...just ride it out? She'll eat when she's hungry?? Is it a texture thing?? Any suggestions?

My son has started doing this recently as well. I think it's a combination of his teeth hurting him, and him starting to exert his own will a bit.
I can imagine that a bottle/nursing/water is more soothing to him warm salty foods. We just try something else, or give spoons of water between bites, if we feel that the food might be irritating sore gums.

Is your DD feeding herself? My 13mo dd is not fond of me feeding her at all. I simply offer her small bits of whatever I'm eating at every meal. Sometimes she eats and sometimes she doesn't. It's normal for kids to eat A LOT and then hardly eat anything for a few days.. I suggest that you start allowing your DD to self feed, including a spoon and then go with the flow. So many things can influence how many calories your LO will eat in a day.. Also, my DD loves to feed herself with a spoon, it really adds some novalty to meal-time.

My son just went through this exact same thing and I found it maddening. He was pretty much done with purees and then all then all the sudden (almost exactly on his first birthday) he got pretty picky and started to refuse finger foods he'd been eating for months. Out of desperation I grabbed some jarred food I had in the pantry and he gobbled that up. I don't know why--maybe the novelty of having something different? He was also teething at the time so maybe it was that too. Anyway, I just rolled with it and gave him jars plus whatever regular food he would still eat and now 3 weeks later he's pretty much back to normal and won't eat purees at all. And of course I made a ton of homemade purees that are now going to waste in the freezer.

We've just had a week of this. Three things we've discovered.
He is teething,
he will eat for Dh because Dh can't nurse him
and he would as of yesterday only eat puree, which hey is still food.
This morning he finally ate eggs again. I was going a little stir crazy with the crazy nursing increase.
