Newish babies (4 months) and cold weather question

I'm hoping for some BTDT advice for my kind of foolish first-time mama question. My husband and I are going upstate for the weekend with our 4 month old, and it's supposed to be considerably cooler (highs of 50s, lows in the 30s) than what we're used to so far (still in the 70s here). What's the best way to dress our little guy, foot-wise, if we're planning on going out and doing some hiking? I've got long sleeve onesies, thick sweat pants, a little hoodie jacket and hat, plus he'll be in a mei tai, so I know his body will be warm enough, but what do I do about his feet? 2 pairs of socks? He has some baby slip on shoes, but he usually kicks those off pretty quickly. I feel so silly for asking this question, but I don't want to get up there and realize that I should've brought extra things since there aren't any stores within a 45 minute drive.

Also, what do you dress your LO in at night in cooler weather if you don't co-sleep? I've got warm footie pjs, then a sleepsack to go over it, but is that enough if the house is cold? We stopped co-sleeping because I couldn't keep him from bellying up to the trough, so to speak, constantly and he'd wake up with such a bellyache in the morning that I had put him back in the co-sleeper bassinet.

can't speak from experience, but....

since you didn't mention it, a hat at night!

my LO has some leather robees (sp?) shoes that someone gave us. i think being outside in the cold and wind especially, socks won't cut it. i plan to use those when we're hiking in colder weather.

meanwhile, post in the Maine tribe

My daughter once had some cute pants with feet attached, and when she was cold when she was tiny, I would put socks on her feet underneath the pants. You could do the same with jammies. And will his slip on shoes stay on better if there are socks under them?

Oh my goodness, yes, a hat at night would be an obvious answer, huh? I just can't seem to switch my brain off from the months of sweltering weather we've had into cold weather common-sense.

If you put a had on him at night you want to make sure you don't accidently bundle him too much too. I know Dr. Sears recommend not putting a hat on your baby after the first few nights specifically because they are such poor regulators. Too cold isn't good but neither is too hot. just to keep in mind!

I like footed pants, long sleeve shirt/onsie, a light sweater, (similar to what I would wear under a coat) and the get a large jacket and zip you and your mei taied babe up into it. That's what I do for outside. (plus hat if really cool)

My LO sleeps in a footed sleeper, long sleeved sleep sac, and a blanket (with the windows open a bit and no heat). She's also 4mo.
