Just read Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. Fantastic as well... Also the Rice Mother by Rani Manika.

We should do an MDC book club or something! Would that even work???
I'd be up for an Alaskan Mamas Book Club...is there something lots of us would enjoy reading and discussing? I mean, just throwing it in informally in our regular threads... I know they have some book discussion places in MDC but when I've browsed there they seemed so serious plus they all seem to know each other and I think it might be like being the new one on the block, so I'm totally intimidated about going there.

And a shameless plug for Holiday Helper. I HH. I don't have the budget to buy anything (shipping is all I can afford ) but I've been saving up gently used things and will be able to send a couple of big boxes this year. Seriously, best warm fuzzies ever. I know a couple of you know, but we were on the in-need list last year, and I was just astounded at all the love and kind things that were sent to us. (Ironically, even though we're now out of work, between the unemployment and student loans and PFDs we are doing fine.) This is my third year giving to HH (even last year I sent out a few GU things), and it just keeps getting better. If you've never joined in, go check out the lists, you won't regret it.

Pregnancy is going well. Baby will probably have to be taken at 37 weeks rather than 38 liked I had hoped due to uterus issues. Ultrasound was good but we didn't get a good heart shot (or gender shot ) so I go back on the 8th for another one.

I'm pretty sure they cannot legally deny her assistance. But I don't know what can be done. BUMP!

I'd show them the AK statute about vaccination refusal and childcare (Georgeanne had it linked somewhere) and if they try to pull more crap, she needs a lawyer. They can't refuse it as we have people on CCA at our daycare that are not vax'd, use an exemption and have no problems. And how the heck did CCA find out about it anyway? It's none of their business.

Sometimes you do have to do the education. They can not refuse you service if you have an exemption. They should know this though, ugh. I used CCA and used an exemption. I didn't discuss it with them though, only the child care provider (of whom I had to educate, which was fine). If she is having trouble with her case worker, she needs to ask to speak to her supervisor. Ask the case worker in question directly so she is not going behind her back. It's handy for her to have the statutes printed out and a link available so the employee can do her own research.

Thanks. It's my birthday today and you would think that at least ONE member of my rather large family would pick up the damn phone and call me. I can't call long distance. They all, except for one sister, has free long distance. Booo.

Thanks. It really makes a difference when there is no other adult to help get excited about a birthday.

Yes! My husband and I have both worked with the New Life midwives in the past- My husband has workedwith Holly (the lead midwife and founder of New Life Midwifery) with client's who have needed a physician consult, and I myself had the wonderful opportunity of getting to know and working with Kinsey (the other CDM with New Life) during the beginning of my apprenticeship.

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about both! They both seem to be fantastic, competent midwives, who I myself would go to for care!

Feel free to message me if you have any specific questions. Good luck!
