Puppy teeth -is this a problem?

Our. 6 mo chihuahua is finally loosing his puppy teeth. He's been loosing them pretty steadily over the past couple weeks.

His lower canines did just fine but, i've noticed over the past couple days, he is super drooly when he sleeps. He did this when the lower canines came in but, this time, the drool fest has been lasting for days. So, I finally got a good look in his mouth and it looks like the upper adult canines are coming in but the baby ones aren't out yet. They don't even appear to be loose. His gums are pretty swollen but, like teething gums, not like infected or anything.

So, is this an issue? I'm assuming the baby teeth will eventually fall out, right??? Also, The amount of drool he's producing is incredible. Is this normal? He's only drooling when he's sleeping but, it's a tremendous amount.

I don't know about the drooling, but the retained baby teeth is common in small breeds. Some baby teeth do fall out once the adult teeth are in, but some need to be removed by your vet - many vets will recommend doing this during a spay/neuter surgery since they are already out. Leaving them in for very long isn't an option as it will result in the adult teeth accumulating extra tartar, extra fast. You'll def want to talk to your vet about the teeth at your next appointment.
