How does a Charter School begin?

I would love to send my son to a school centered around the Waldorf model but don't have anything in my immediate area available. There is a private option 45 minutes north and a charter option 30 minutes south. I imagine that many people in my city would really love and benefit from a Waldorf-esque charter. Does anyone know how this process begins? I have no idea where to even start with it. Any info or advice appreciated on beginning any type of charter!

You might also inquire at the charter you like that is too far away. They may be helpful in advising another start up.

I'm casually acquainted with some parents who are currently in the process of setting up a charter school. They hope to be able to open the school next fall. I know there is a public hearing coming up soon where they must make their case in order to receive a charter and be eligible for funding.
