Think DD has a UTI

Please help! Urgh, these things always seem to happen to us on the weekends when the doc is not in and I really don't want to take her to the walk-in clinic and sit for hours on end exposing us to more illness (my youngest is recovering from whooping cough). Anyhow, dd is 6 yrs old and this morning she has been complaining of a tummy ache with occasional sharp cramps and nausea. She has no fever. She had an accident last night and this morning, she told me today it's because it hurts when she pees and she feels like she has to pee all the time. Sounds like UTI, right? I really don't want to seek medical treatment for this, I'd like to avoid antibiotics if at all possible, also she's allergic to penicillin. Last night she had a long bubble bath (using herbal mild baby bath soap), could it have caused this that fast?

Here's what I'm doing so far:

limit sugar
probiotics
Sodium Ascorbate Vit C
Anti Viral

I'm going to run out and get some cranberry juice. Please any more tips??

Oh and in case anyone is interested in the long TMI version of why I don't want to take her to the doc:
I had a similar occurence when I was her age and it has literally scarred me for life because I was held down by several nurses in a room full of medical people while they catheterized me and did a dye test on my kidneys, you can tell me it was simply medical treatment till the cows come home- it felt like violation and it was utterly traumatizing as a child of 5-6 yrs old (I still have panic attacks when I have to get a vag exam). All that aside, I realize that is probably (hopefully) not the norm in these situations but I will not allow her privates to be examined or cath'd, she is a very private and sensitive child anyhow, and is already very afraid of doctors/hospitals (due to dental surgery at 3) and for all these reasons I'd prefer to treat at home. I will of course seek medical treatment if it seems severe.

Thank you.

Our HCP recommends d-mannose. Half of the adult dose for children. Course of 3 days then daily maintenance doses. He also recommends clo for any infection and for immunity boosting.

Test strips from the pharmacy won't be accurate if too much vit c is given.

The anti-viral won't help if it is bacterial. I personally have never heard of uti being viral, but I'm not a hcp or doctor, so there very well may be ones that are.

Maybe she just has an irritation from the bath.

Get her to drink lots of water, though you probably already know that. Hope she is feeling better real soon.

My 5.5 y/o DD was just on the verge of her first UTI, as well, and it was alleviated with good ol' cranberry juice. I also put a warm water bottle on her abdomen to ease the pain & hopefully relax her bladder. That was 2 days ago & she's been fine every since.

One final thing I did with my DD was re-iterate the importance of front-to-back wiping. I'm quite sure this is her issue! (I'm keeping an eye on her, though, because I had a urethral stricture as a young girl which caused recurrent UTI's & kidney infections. I eventually had to have my urethra stretched. ).

Thank you! Unfortunately all the HF stores here are closed today so I will have to wait till tomorrow to see if they have D-Mannose (it's doubtful though as we're in a small town). I threw in the Anti Viral drops cause it's an immune booster, figured it couldn't hurt.

A couple other things. I made sure she is wiping front to back, she insists she always does that. She does still wear pullups to bed, it's not a behavioral thing with her, she simply cannot help it, she's a very deep sleeper, we have tried everything and have just given up and decided she would stop bed wetting when her body was ready to hold it all night and/or wake her up. Can Pull-Ups cause UTIs?

She is certainly not getting any worse, and in some ways she's improving. She has had no more upset stomach since yesterday morning, still no sign of fever or pain in her back or tummy, no more accidents. The only time it hurts is when she pees and it's not enough to make her scream (she definitely would if it were really painful, she's quite dramatic!), but it is enough to make her dread it, but it's not as. Oh, and she has lots of loose stools, could be the Vit C though

She's still drinking lots of water and cranberry juice with SA and probiotics.

Make sure it is 100% cranberry juice and not part cranberry.

You can also get cranberry capsules. I open a capsule and put it in my daughers drink.
