I just got back from taking the GD blood test after drinking that horrid glucola drink. It was like sucking down a whole bunch of otter pops without freezing them, yuck! I thought I was going to be sick. It really didn't agree with me. Now I have heartburn. Seems like most things have been giving me heartburn lately.

Well I guess I'm just full of complaints! I just hope the test turns out good.

Aww, thanks. Everyone thinks I'm more pregnant than I am, or they insist it's more than one! I read somewhere that if you have heartburn your baby will have a lot of hair and it's supposed to be actually true. So maybe you'll have a cutie with a head full of hair. I hate that stupid drink and I have to do it twice because I have big babies. I passed it in the first trimester and I'm not looking forward to doing it again soon.

We just bought M a toddler bed. It's a firetruck. He LOVES it. And his sister likes playing on it too. I'm surprised how little trouble he's given us about getting up and playing or leaving the room.
Last night we went to my SIL's house to hang out because we hadn't seen her in a few weeks (she's been attending a church closer to her house). She pestered Chaise to tell her the sex of the baby the whole time. It was pretty amusing.

Hi all Hope you don't mind me jumping in. I'm due sometime in Feb, probably during the first half, but we're not sure. My cycles have gotten really, really long over the last few years.. LMP says I'm due in January but my HPTs and three ultrasounds say otherwise. So we're looking at Feb. 15th or thereabouts.

So, what's up lately here:

After applying in June (!!), I finally got Medicaid last week. Utterly ridiculous, but at least I have it now.

Went to the freestanding birth center I plan to have this baby at today. The midwives are wonderful but it looks like I may have to get a clearance from my neurologist to give birth there. So I'm on the hunt for a new neurologist since I fired mine about eight months ago.

I'll be going back in four weeks and will be doing the one-hour GTT then (yuck).

Mrs Music, we are debating getting DD2 a toddler bed to start transitioning her into her own bed. I feel slightly guilty about it since she loves to sleep with us but she tosses and turns so much I can't trust her in bed with a newborn and I dont' want her to equate the baby to having to leave mommy's bed.
Welcome Karan! From what Ive been told Medicaid is a pain in the bottom to get but at least you have it now!

Anyone else still getting morning sickness? Im feeling horrible this week, I keep thinking Im getting over it and then it gets bad again.

I moved K to her own bed while I was pregnant with M. Mostly because she kept trying to nurse and I needed her not to because of the contractions/bed rest. I set her mattress next to mine as soon as I was able to get her to sleep without nursing. Then I let her sleep in a different room on the mattress. And then I got her an awesome looking castle bed so she was excited about it. M, I moved out of the bed as soon as he started sleeping through the night. He went on to a make-shift bed on the floor next to my bed for a few nights before I was comfortable moving him out of my room. But the room is right next to mine so I can hear every little thing, so when I was sure he really was sleeping all night, I put him in the crib at night. He didn't even cry. He never cared much for nursing anyway. He was weaned at 14 months (so a whole year earlier than DD) because of my surgery. Anyway, he's been trying to climb out of his crib for a few weeks. And since I caught him with a leg over the other day, DH ran out and got him his own little firetruck bed. We figured he'd be ok with it since he's been trying to steal his sister's bed before she gets there every night for a few weeks.

Hey everyone! Just thought I'd pop in this mornin and say hello

We got DD a toddler bed when ds was about 6 months old. She didn't want anything to do with it the first couple times we tried to have her sleep in it. So we stopped forcing the issue. It stayed in her room and for about a month she played in it. Then one night she got in it and that was that. She always does things in her own time. Potty training was like that too.

Now this baby is rapidly coming and it will be time to think about putting ds in the toddler bed. I have a feeling we will have a problem keeping him from getting out all night long. There's still a good while before I need to worry about that though, thank goodness!

I've heard that about heartburn too. I had mild to medium heartburn with my kids and they came out with a medium amount of hair I heard it has to do with hormones or something.

I am looking huge these days. Only gained 6 lbs but my stomach is way out there. THe pains that come along with having a big belly on a small frame are starting Oh well. It's bearable and it's temporary. I think I will start looking into chiro. appt's soon though!

My glucose test is in a couple weeks. I'm a weird-o though- the drink doesn't bother me at all. I kinda like it (not that I would drink it for enjoyment). It appeals to the sugar addict in me I suppose.

My midwife gave me the option of eating jelly beans instead of drinking that awful syrup drink for the glucose test. She said most women find it worse than the drink, though, because you've got to scarf down over 40 jelly beans (amount various by brand) in under five minutes!! DH thought it would be interesting/hilarous to watch me try to eat all of them but I opted for the drink instead. I'll have the test at my next appointment next week.

I've also been dealing with Medicaid and it is a huuuuuugggggeee pain in the butt. My midwife is the only homebirth midwife in my state who accepts Medicaid and she's only been doing it for a little over a year. In other words: Medicaid has no idea what the heck to do with her or her clients. It is a horrible horrible battle. They accept it, but it won't go into the system and she's a specialist so I have to choose a primary care dr and get him to refer me, then they want to fight with me about if I need an ob to refer me (I don't, but the system won't put me under a reg dr because I'm pregnant and I very nearly had to go to the head of our state's medicaid to get it corrected). Plus they won't pay for birth supplies or a birth assistant (wth?!?!) so I have to pay that out of pocket. I'm very grateful for what I get, don't get me wrong there, but it should not have to be this much trouble!!!!!! Besides, they only pay out a quarter of the cost for me to have a homebirth as opposed to a hospital birth. You'd think they'd jump all over it but....Anyway, sorry, that turned into a rant! I'm just very very riled up about the whole thing and I'm concerned its not going to go through correctly anyway. Its also been a work in progress since June and it just really really doesn't need to be.

We didn't put DD in a toddler bed until she was nearly 3! I kept trying to get DH to go for it and he'd keep putting it off and putting it off. He didn't want his baby to grow up, lol! Now I'm just trying to convince her to give up the side rail. She stays in bed fine without it (at grandparents or my bed), but I think its become a security thing for her. When I was her age I'd set up a ring of stuffed animals around the edge of my bed to "protect" me, LOL, so I can understand her desire for a little extra security!!!

I thought about getting Medicaid but realized how much of a pain in the butt it is so now I'm paying out of pocket. 'Tis life.

DS (will be 4 in January) still co-sleeps with me so I'm going to get a small mattress to put next to my side of the bed for the baby. I plan on waiting for him to let me know when he wants his own bed...it worked for breastfeeding so it should work for this as well

I'm not going to get the glucose test, I don't really feel a need for it for various reasons.

That's always true. Most of the hb mw in my state accept medicaid and have for years. They just don't cover a few of the costs. I don't know why. But $240 in extra fees to birth at home is worth it, and you know ahead of time so it's not like you're getting a surprise bill at the end.

That's very true, its not a surprise bill-though my mw charges $820 for all of it (2 birth assistants and the supplies). I know my mw is working with legislators to try to get things changed. According to our state its not covered because those things are "not necessary". So as far as they are concerned, its ok to birth at home, that's perfectly safe. They'll pay for a mw, but no birth assistants because you only need one person at the birth, any more are not necessary. And no supplies (gloves, pitocin, oxygen) are necessary either. It just doesn't make sense. Sorry to rant. Its just so close to home the word "medicaid" makes me want to rip something up!

Funny thing is, I've gotten Medicaid (the pregnant women one) twice before.. once in WA state and once in TX (I'm in TX now). Both times it was super-easy, I was in and out in an hour or two and approved the same day. Then again, I wasn't self-employed back then, and that's been half the battle.

Love, love, love the midwives I've been seeing. No HB midwives here, unfortunately, but the freestanding birth center is set up so that you have a private cabin (nicely decorated) to give birth in. And there's a tub for labor and/or delivery, kitchen, extra beds, etc. Very neat. The midwives (CNMs) are awesome and whenever I ask about what their procedures are for this or that, they tell me that it's my decision because it's my birth and my child.

Self-employment is a HUGE battle with them. Otherwise, yeah it's pretty easy. When I was pregnant with DS though, they didn't want to backdate August even though I applied before the month ended and I had to fight them on that. I've applied with self-employment, regular old employment and while not working at all.

I started taking an iron pill today because my blood work showed anemia. Now my morning sickness is back full force. I don't know if I am going to be able to stomach the iron!

Money has been an issue lately and I am really feeling pressure to go back up to five days a week at work. I dropped down to four days a week my first tri because I was dealing with morning sickness on top of withdrawl from pain meds I had been on for a year due to a back injury. My job is really physical and my hours are insanely early. DH doesn't think it would be good for me or baby or the family in general to work more right now. My docs are saying I should expect some back pain as the baby gets bigger too. I'm not willing to get back on pain meds so I guess I need to take it easy, and stay working as little as I can.

I just wish I had enough money to buy groceries more often. This too shall pass!

trekkinggirl, can you find Floradix? I was really anemic and started taking it. It has helped so much and doesn't make me constipated or sick. It is amazing! I also am able to take my prenatal now which has iron in it. It is nice to be able to take it now without puking!

We are putting off the toddler bed for the moment. I just found out my grandpa passed (I was incredibly close to him, he considered me the daughter he always wanted but never had) and I just can't deal with one more thing on top of everything else. I feel horrible about the fact I can't be there for my family, there is no way I could fly out (with two kids alone) and fly back (again with two kids alone) before the commercial cut off date which is a ton earlier than for military flights. Anyway, even if I couldn't we couldn't really afford 3 international plane tickets right now and I can't leave my girls.

Im SIL(the one that is pregnant) was asking me about it because shes gained 22 pounds in under a month and the doctor is giving her a hard time about it. I don't know much about it since my gain has always been high but steady so I was never given a hard time about how much I gained.

I dont know, but I have gained 45 pounds and I am only 22 weeks. Of course, I have twins baking, but still. It SEEMS like a lot to me...my dr says its great. I think every dr is different about weight gain.
