25 weeks and just got into a car accident **update post 13**

So on our way home from the grocery store DH and I got into a car accident. He stopped at a stop sign and thought it was a 4 way stop... it wasn't we got hit on the front driver side, pretty slow. I feel a little achy but not bad. My neck is stiff. Baby is moving like normal I have slight cramping but that could be gas. No spotting. I am a little worried just bc I am preggers. What do you all think?

I would be worried as well. I would pay very close attention to any pain you have in your tummy and if the cramps get worse then I would head to the ER for a u/s to make sure the placenta is still attached properly.

I didn't even think of the placenta
Crap!

I got into the exact same accident at 26 weeks (except *I* was driving and we were hit on the *rear* driver's side). I opted to immediately go to L&D for a few hours of monitoring and a cervical check despite feeling fine. Everything checked out ok, but I would probably act the same if given the choice again even though it was totally inconvenient and expensive (I was in another state, by myself with a 2 year old, and had to rebook flights and hotel rooms).

Usually it is fine but it is always a concern after a big bump like car accident or falling and it is something to keep an eye on but not panic about because like I mentioned it is usually fine.

Sorry didnt mean to scare you but felt you should know what to watch for

I would be a little worried but if there is no spotting/cramping Im sure you are find. A co-workers wife got hit from behind, the person who hit them was going around 40ish, she was fine. She did go to the hospital (they actually called me and asked if I thought they needed to and I told them to) and everything was fine but they told her to take it easy and to make sure to do the kick counts. They told her to come back if there was any spotting, decreased movement or cramping. They did advise her to visit her regular OB as well the following week for a follow up.

I would definitely watch the cramping.

I did have a placental abruption from a car accident (at 17 weeks, with my now very healthy 7 year old DS)

it started out feeling like gas or low heartburn and slowly (over about 24 hours) spread to being an almost unbearable pain that we thought was appendicitis. Rushed me to the ER, they did an ultrasound and found the abruption.

Of course... it could just be gas... but considering the circumstances I would pay close attention and if it changes get in to be checked out. Its definitely a better to play it safe sort of scenario. (personally, with my past experience, i would go in to be checked out anyway just to be safe.)

How scary!

I agree with the others—take it easy and pay extra attention to any weird twinges/cramps/pains. It couldn't hurt to be checked out, but from what I have heard and read, usually everything is a-ok in a situation like this.

I'm glad everyone is okay and that the accident wasn't serious!

A friend of mine had this happen, except it was at 45 mph on a highway. She called her doc right away and they said as long as baby was moving ok and there was no bleeding or cramping to not worry. Do monitor yourself extra cautiously and call right away if the cramps change. Good luck and be well!

My husband and I were in an accident when I was around 18-20 weeks. We were hit from behind by a Cadillac which then made us hit the van in front of us. The cars were totaled. I went to the hospital for monitoring and had an already scheduled u/s a week later. Everything with the pregnancy/baby was fine though thank goodness.

If you are still worried it wouldn't hurt to call your OB/midwife and get checked out. Hope you are feeling better soon!

The same thing happened to me at around 33 weeks with dc2. Front drivers side, but it was little bit more serious, the person who was it us was going at least 50. The car was totalled and my mother who was driving almost died. Anyway the thing is that I was fine, the baby was fine, and so was my one year old daughter who was behind me at the time. I had some dark black bruises where the seatbelt caught and so did dd. That was all that happened in us. But I had a NST and an US afterwards in the emergency room.

Chances are that you are fine. The cramping would worry me though. If I were you, I would atleast go get it checked out. The cramping could be pretty normal at this stage in pregnancy, but it is always better to be safe.

I agree that it's a good idea to have it checked out, to be on the safe side, but cramping can also come from the stress of the accident: I have been feeling tense / crampy from the start of the pregnancy whenever I got stressed about something.

I got checked today, just with a doppler and an abdominal exam. everything is fine. I have an Echo ultrasound on Thursday anyways so that will check everything. I am really sore but that was "just your body doing its job protecting the baby."

Great update!

Glad you and baby are fine
My advice at this point is to go get a chiro adjustment...or a few. It can be billed to the car insurance. I was in an accident earlier this pg, and chiro was freaking awesome.

So glad everything is okay! I agree with Babyjelly, as well—if you can, get to a chiro just to make sure everything is good and aligned.

I'm really glad that you and the babe are okay!

Just chiming in to reiterate that seeing a chiropractor is an excellent idea. I have been in 2 car accidents this pregnancy. Both resulted in hip misalignment that I didn't feel until about 1 week after the accident. I had never seen a chiropractor, but it's been a good experience. The chiropractor aligned me and I have kept going every other week or so because with hormones they get out-of-whack really quickly.

I'm glad everything is fine with the baby! That had to have been scary!
