October should be spent chasing the Naughty Dingos - Page 6

I like the "Not Perfect, Just Amazing" slogan myself. I totally think the person organizing should get a free one!

Mommajb - That sucks about your doctor! I hadn't seen my doctor in about 8 years, and they still had my records on file, and gave me my appointment with no trouble. I'm sorry you are feeling abandoned. You really need support right now.

JayGee - How did the run with the tape go? I so hope this does the trick for you! How awesome if it was this simple?

Lofty - We have had a couple of accidents where the other person was clearly at fault, but their insurance didn't want to pay. We paid the deductible on our insurance, and our company went after the other. In one incident, they were successful, and we even got our deductible back! My suggestion would be to talk to your insurance and get them on it!

Gaye - Have fun at your 5k! It sounds like the perfect thing to do to blow off pre-marathon nerves!

My friend gave me such a wonderful day off yesterday! Today is my birthday, and she took me out to breakfast, and then took the children all day yesterday! It was so nice. I had planned on going out for a run, but ended up just crashing on the couch! It was delicious! Then, we took the girl scouts to a giant corn maze in the evening, and wandered around in the dark with them. It was a ton of fun. But, we got home late, and I have not only my children, but 3 extra today (my actual birthday). We are going to be spending most of the day cleaning and getting the house ready for a puppy invasion on Sunday! Thankfully, the house is not in horrible shape. And the parts that are, are not really areas the puppy will have access to.

Hi all!

I'm going to try to get this out before my computer evaporates it again. The last three times I've typed replies, my work laptop just sort of vomits it out and I lose it.

Anyway. I'm for the T-shirt with Mama Needs a Run, or Amazing, not Perfect or some such thing. I'm with a lot of other Dingoes -- the cross training schedule is, uhhh...somewhat sparse. TMI sorry. I'm too tired from marathon training.

Definitely the freebie for the t-shirt organizer.

Mommajb, I'm sorry your docs are buttheads. Better to find someone more responsive anyway I guess. I also have no one that I can really turn to with various medical concerns; I do have a PCP/family practitioner but I don't know her well and I don't get a very 'holistic' vibe from her (i.e. not that I need someone only doing homeopathics, more that I need someone who will look at the WHOLE me rather than my various parts through the lens of pathology).

My running has been awesome lately. It's the weather. It went down to a reasonable temperature the last week, and very low humidity, so I feel like I can breathe when I go out. Actually the mornings are even ... gasp... a bit chilly (in the 60's ) and wonderfully breezy. I'm up to 25-30 mile weeks but the schedule is a little weird. Tuesday and Thursdays are very easy, 3 milers. Wednesday is a mid mileage day, now it's 6 but it will go up to 8 eventually. Saturday is half the mileage of the Sunday long run, done at pace. It's the Higdon Intermediate 1 plan. It's the Sat-Sun thing that sort of aggravates me (although by the end I could have signed up for the Goofy Challenge because I'll more or less be doing that in training!). We'll see, I may switch over to a SmartCoach plan from the RW site (the free one).

Supposed to get warm and humid again next week which kind of stinks, but as long as the general trend is cooler and drier, I'm okay.

I think I want to buy a capri/running skirt combo set. Anyone have one? Also I need a new running skirt but I want one that's slightly longer (like at least 15 inches) with good compression shorts underneath. Some of them have pathetic shorts underneath which kind of defeats the purpose IMHO. Any suggestions?

Okay back to work. I am avoiding my students.

Happy Birthday BEC

Nick--It sounds like your running is going great!

Girls are off for a 4-day weekend started the day with a pumpkin donut from dunkin it's very unlike me so to get donuts be these are awesome. We are going to head into the city to see hubby at his new job.

Worked a ton this week and am exhauseted. I was able to put aside some more money for the princess half trip so that is good.

Do any dingos have special runs plan for 10-10-10? I was thinking about attempting 10 miles, my longest run in recent weeks was 7 what do you think can I should I?

Jo, Have you heard about WWOOFers? It stands for Worldwide Opportunities in Organic Farms and basically it connects people who want to volunteer to help out on farms with people who have farms and need labor but may not be able to pay for it. The farmer provides room and board and the wwoofers do pretty much anything they are assigned. We met a few down in Mexico who were working for a couple who built dirt-bag buildings - not exactly an organic farm - but they were happy because they were learning a cool skill for free and the couple running the thing loved the free labor. It really seemed that everyone was happy. Anyway, maybe it could be an answer to your time crunch?

Nic - It's good to hear about your runs! I like picturing you running along in the warm pre-dawn, listening to crocs yawping.

Bec - It sounds like you've got some great celebrating going on! Enjoy

Lofty - Yeah, I agree, I bet your insurance will turn themselves inside out not to get stuck with the bill.

RR: Hmm, probably nothing today - again. I need to color my frowsy hair in the hopes that dye will weigh it down and keep it from being the fright wig it's been leaning towards recently. If not at least Halloween is coming up.
I second WWOOFing. My brother has done that for a few years now, as a worker. I suggested it to my youngest BIL, but well.. he doesn't like to work so much.

Ok, I am officially pathetic. But I'm baking whole wheat pizza dough like a fiend tonight and I will run! I'm working on doing the RW 7 minute pre-run workout. I think I'm more likely to do it if I can remember the moves instead of trying to use the pages. We'll see.

I lost 20 lbs, put 7 back on, and have lost a ton of muscle mass. So, I'm the same size as before, even though I'm still down more than 10lbs. Doh.

I'm working on some art today - I hope to have 3 options as a starting point (variations on things already seen but not produced) - of course, I can always come up with something new.

JB- first, I'm so glad to see you here. On the t-shirt length, I haven't gotten that far in the process yet but if there is a chance to inquire and see a sample first, I will do that.

Mel - I would love to take you up on your request to help! Do you have time for that, really? I have some pretty spreadsheets from before that I could send you to help keep track of who orders what, who has paid and how, etc. ?

Absolutely. And I mean it!

Besides, I love spreadsheets, esp. pretty ones! Do you still have my email, or I'll just go ahead and PM it to you.

Bec! Happy birthday!
Hey, a nap on the couch sounds like a perfect gift to me. Naps are the best. Have a great day & all the best to you and everyone around you for the whole next year.

My sister & family are arriving today! Yay! It's going to be awesome - weather is perfect, lots of stuff going on in town, kids are excited, house is semi-clean and the guest area is ready. Bring on the weekend!

ETA: wait, should it be "not perfect, just amazing" ? who's the copywriter around here that gets credit for that - jo?

ETA2: I'm working on that ms. fox art now, but man, it's tough to work that down to only one or two colors....if anyone has any other ideas, let me have 'em
post #109 of 554
i forgot to post earlier...
happy birthday bec!!
love that, poppy!

I would reverse the order. Puts the emphasis on "amazing."
you know what's not perfect?
submit#2

the artwork is a mess, but you get the idea - so the pink can be something else but we'd probably have to all have white tees for this one to work - no dark colors.

ETA: ok i agree jo - i'll swap it around when we've decided on art. also....who wants to make the call on "dingoes" vs "dingos" hmmmmm?
1. poppy, I am your biggest fan.
2. bec
3. I have shingles. The doctor will consider letting me back into his practice which is good as I do like him medically speaking. They found dh's chart, mine wasn't transferred when he left the hospital but as he is family practice and he sees part of my family... Hopefully they will call Monday or Tuesday with good news. I could use it.
Poppy, omb, I love the Charlie's Angels one. However, I love everything you do!!!

Mommajb, ((hug))) Shingles? That bites!!!!! Glad your doc is letting you back in. Be well soon...

Happy Birthday, BEC!
bec, I hope it was a terrific birthday!

OK, we all know "Dingoes" is the correct spelling...as many of us prefer "Dingos," we use it knowing it's not correct. Which is fine on the thread...but on a T-shirt, we're out walking around misspelled. I'd hate to be nabbed by the Sharpie folks and corrected, kwim??

Ugh...the holiday concert drama comes around again. Can we just understand that we don't celebrate December holidays, and can we just have a pass? Enjoy your concert, happy holidays--but we don't celebrate, and I really need my kids to be left out of it. We need to save our memorization powers for learning our Muslim prayers. Sincerely. OK. Thanks.

bec~

nic~I probably sound like a broken record, but skirtsports. The gymgirl ultra is right around 15 inches, and the shorts underneath are long and do not ride up. They also have capri/skirt combos. eta: looks like the happy hour skirt is 16.5 inches and has the same shorts underneath as the ggu!

mommajb~Shingles? Really? Ugh.

So, I WAS having a pretty good day today. And then. MY NANNY QUIT. I do understand her reasons (her son has not been doing very well with living with her aunt and the aunt's three sons), but I'm pretty that she didn't give me any notice. As in, she's not coming back, it's friday at 4:45, and I no longer have a nanny for Monday morning. Especially after I emphasized that one of the most important traits I was looking for was reliability, she couldn't suck it up for a week to give me some time? Sigh. Fortunately, XH is in Cincinnati right now and MIL is able to fly back with him tomorrow night if we need her, which looks likely. So, I could really use some find-a-good-RELIABLE-nanny-fast vibes...

Other than that, the day was decent. I got 100 on my retake dosage calc exam, so phew. Had a nice evening out celebrating my friend's birthday, and miraculously, it didn't even cost that much, although still more than I should have been spending.

Now I'm just trying to decide how to run tomorrow's 5k. I'd really kind of like to try to go sub-30 pushing the stroller, but that would take some serious effort, which I'm not sure I should do a week before the marathon...
bec - happy birthday!

mommajb - oh, that just stinks. I hope you're not feeling too horribly.

poppy - LOVE the Charlie's Angels! And I def. agree that a typo on a shirt is not cool even if it is intentional. Can you tell I hate creatively spelled names like Krispy Kreme?

nic - runningskirts.com has capri skirts but you might have to sacrifice a limb to pay for them.

jo - gah, I'm so sorry you have to have that whole dominant religion thing shoved in your face. Why is our society so dang insensitive and ethnocentric? It irks me to no end and I celebrate Christmas!

Gaye - I knew you'd pass your test...hooray! That totally sucks about your nanny. for an even better one to come along quick.

So, I'm running a 10k tomorrow and I'm scared! I've never done one before and I have no idea how to do it. Well, that sounds lame, but you know what I mean. My <ineffective?> strategy in 5ks is to run the first mile as fast as I can, slow down the second mile because I think I'm dying, then speed up the last mile once I convince myself I'm not really going to die. But that's not going to work for a 10k. And what about sports drink? Gu? I'm making this a lot harder than it needs to be, I think. I guess I'll just run...not too fast, not too slow, but just right.

Nick--I have a Skirt Sports Happy Hour skirt and it's nice and long. The shorts aren't exactly compression shorts (at least not for me) but I love the skirt:

bec--yay for such a great day, and happy birthday!

modmom--donuts sound awesome. Glad I'm safely stuck at home tonight.

1jooj--you're amazing. I know we've said that before, but it's true. Also, ugh on the holiday drama already.

poppy--love the Ms. Fox one!

mommajb--ugh! That's miserable. Hopefully the dr at least lets you back into the practice.

tjsmama-- that you work out a speedy nanny solution. Also, ugh.

I do say things other than ugh, if anyone is wondering.

cornflake--I don't run many 10ks, but when I do I try to keep myself above a comfortable pace but at a level I know I can keep up, if that makes any sense.

Had studio photos taken of J today, and one of the girls together for Christmas cards and then I realized what a minefield holiday card wording is these days. Usually we get an assortment or cards and send the appropriate greeting to the appropriate friend. But this time the cards will all have the same wording and no matter what, someone might be offended. I'm hoping everyone will just look at the beautiful girls and ignore the rest (I finally decided on "Merry Christmas" because the majority of our recipients celebrate it, as do we). Maybe we'll also include a "happy holidays" card for those who don't to balance things out? Or never send Christmas cards again so we don't have to stress about it?

gah. Christmas already?
Jo: we celebrate Christmas, I consider myself Christian and I'm offended by the songs they ask my children to sing. IMO you should be able to opt out. I know we can (but it does make the kids feel bad who do opt out since they go to the library and read....although my own dd would adore that option).

Real: We usually go for something like this . Because I'm a private religious person.

I prefer the Charlie's Angels image. But I like both.

Gaye: I'm so sorry you're having nanny problems. That's exactly why my kids go to an in home daycare (vs. hiring a college student or something to come after school 2 days a week -- we break even for that). If DCP closes due to illness or vacation then she has a backup plan for most cases. The timing of it all totally sucks: I mean your parents just left right?

Mommajb: shingles? I think it can be brought on by a weakened immune system. I hope you work it all out. and by that I mean: feel better, find a decent doctor, and figure out what's been plaguing you. I'm also wondering when you find out about your board certification?

I think Leah has an ear infection. Which could mean no "cardio boot camp" for me today. It could also mean a visit to urgent care. So.not.a.fan. of that kind of clinic. Much rather see my own doc, kwim?

I went to bed at 830. woot! It made dealing with sick leah waking multiple times much easier. I woke at 5 and I'm considering sewing. Wondering how much noise my sewing machine makes when I'm on the first floor and they're on the second.....waiting until at least 6 in the event I wake the children.
Thanks for the love and understanding.

Real, people's greeting cards--especially when they are photo cards, and not 'selected' just for me--don't offend. You celebrate the holiday and it's part of your faith and you greet others as part of your celebration. Totally cool. In fact, we make a point of wishing our neighbors and friends happy holidays--just as you all wish us the same when Eid rolls around. I love that.

But I have a teacher going out of her way to make "secular" selections of music in order that my kids can participate in a Christmas concert. Which is just not going to happen. To be frank, if it became a requirement, I'd pull them out of school, quit my job and homeschool on principle. It's just that frustrating.

As is the fact that the same children who can barely be pulled from bed M-F at 6:45 are somehow able to be dressed and in the kitchen at 6 on Saturday.

mommajb, you clearly need attention quickly. I hope this is a step toward healing.
bec!!! Sounds like you had a great one .

poppy ~ I the Charlie's Angels one. And I always spell Dingoes anyway, so that's my vote.

Jo ~ I'm just reading about what you go through with the celebration of mainstream holidays. Our area here is SO diverse that they wouldn't even consider a Christmas program at school. Offhand, I can think of at least 8 Muslim kids in DDs and DSs rooms. Sorry you're dealing with this already .

mommajb ~ oh no! Get into that doctor fast. Shingles is painful, and can last a while. Where is it located? Thinking of you and sending you healing.

Gaye ~ NO!!!! Glad your MIL can cover for a few days, but I hope you will find a reliable nanny quickly. Argh! Enjoy your 5K though .

CFG ~ have a great 10K!

Yesterday was crazy ! We had a second showing on the house in the morning (no word, so I'm guessing they didn't pick ours...) I ran day 3 of week 6 C25K which is 5 minutes warmup and then a straight 25 minute run, which felt great ! The tape really held my fibula in place. I need to retape it myself today, so I hope I can do it correctly. DH picked up DD1 from school and spent the whole afternoon with her ~ took her to gymnastics and out to dinner. She just thrives on individual attention like that. Last night, DH and DS were playing football in the yard and DS said, "Dad, I bet no one else from my class is having this much fun right now!" Makes a heart warm, I tell ya!

20 or so miles on my bike planned for this morning while everyone else is playing soccer .

Happy Weekend!
