My 6yo told a neighbor child that I give him "whuppins"

I had to break up a fight between this girl and another girl. They are only 5-6 years old. In the process, I told them that hitting and fighting and putting their hands on each other in any such way was unacceptable. Later, the girl asked my ds if I give him whuppins and he said yes. He didn't even know what it meant until after he told me about it and I explained.

I don't know why he told her that. The only things that I can come up with are that he didn't want her to know he didn't know what it meant and he wanted to fit in. So now, after me telling them hitting is unacceptable, they think I hit. My words will mean nothing. Ugh! It would be kind of funny except for the fact that I don't want people thinking I whip my child.

I wouldn't be concerned about what other people, especially 5 & 6yo's think. If it happens again in your presence break it up & then take the kids to their parents houses to let them deal with it.

I'm not worried about what others think because I don't want them to think badly of me. However, I'm the only parent in the area that I know who does not hit her children. I kind of see myself as trying to set an example of gentle parenting and I always strongly disagree with anyone who suggests corporal punishment for anything. I don't want to look like a hypocrite because then I can't have any influence. KWIM?

My son had an argument with a classmate about whose dad gives the hardest spankings.

My son has never been spanked in his life.

The other mom told me about it because our five year olds were totally trying to one-up each other and it was hilarious.

That is so funny. I wonder why they do that sort of thing.

My DD told her preschool teacher the other day someone hit her on the head, but couldn't say who, then she told the teacher that she hit her on the head. She told me the same story first it was a kid, then the teacher. The teacher had to have a "talk" with me about what happened, I told her that she tells me her brother hits her sometimes too, ummmm he's a baby, she gets creative sometimes.

My DD makes stuff up, she told Dh she had a great day and nobody hit her on the head, IDK...Kids say weird stuff sometimes.
