automatic litter box

It's DH's chore to clean the litter box. He hasn't been doing a great job, and would LOVE an automatic box for Christmas. I have a 40% off coupon and an additional $5 off of that from one of my stores. A great deal, except I'm not finding a lot of good feedback from them. I also don't want to spend a fortune on ongoing replacements like cartridges and special litter.... Two of the brands I could buy are SmartScoop and Scoop Free.

Do you have one? Do you like it?

Of course, I guess another option would be to take over the chore myself...

Personally I would tell him to suck it up and clean it himself. It is not that big of a job and only takes a minute every night.

I had a LitterMaid one for a while and HATED it. I had to keep the litter level low or else my cat's clumps would be too big for the machine to scoop, which meant I had to refill it all the time. Even then, about half the time, when it would go to "scoop" the box, it would run into whatever she left in there and be unable to go further. It would go back, try again, and then give up. I finally decided it would be much easier for me to just do a thorough scoop every couple days (which takes, what, 1-2 minutes?) than have to babysit that thing.

Keep in mind that a lot of cats don't like them and will refuse to use them.
