kale decimated by slugs - will it come back?

I went on vacation and when I came back slugs had completely eaten my kale right down to the stalks - they look like grass, or weird chives now. Will they come back, if I hunt down and kill all the slugs? (No, I do NOT have room for ducks.) I eliminated 3 last night in beer traps, and I'm thinking I should check under all the planters in my yard AND my neighbour's yard (townhouse complex - not a great distance for a slug to go), and humanely off the little buggers. Should I wait and see if the kale comes back (most of the plants were about 6" high and well-leafed-out when I left) or consign them to the compost and see if I can get some similar-sized bedding plants somewhere?

My chickens went nuts on mine this summer and came back nicely with new leaves almost immediately.

Hm. I thought bunnies got mine, but maybe it was slugs. I'm hoping it comes back, but if it doesn't it'll just compost itelf in the bed.

Mine actually is coming back, following the slug-reduction measures. There are new leaves sprouting on all the plants! I just hope they can get big enough before it gets much colder.
